update-cursor-plugins

update-cursor-plugins is a skill for Claude Code from paulbaranowski/wild-horses. It costs 70 tokens per session (689 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A local installer that copies plugins from a Cursor marketplace catalog into Cursor's plugin folder. Cursor is a code editor with support for add-ons, and the copies are real files rather than shortcuts to another folder.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to install or update all plugins listed in a marketplace's .cursor-plugin/marketplace.json file.
Why use it?
It gives you a local refresh method when the team marketplace cannot be refreshed in the editor. Real copies continue to work even if the original checkout is removed.

Skill for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: disable-model-invocation in frontmatter.

Runs only inside a plugin — its command needs a path that Claude Code sets for a plugin’s own hooks and for nothing else, and the catalogue could not identify which plugin ships it.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00070 $0.00689
Opus 5 $0.00035 $0.00345
Sonnet 5 $0.00014 $0.00138
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00069

Security

Grade A, and why

update-cursor-plugins scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/test_update_cursor_plugins.py, scripts/update_cursor_plugins.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Update Cursor Plugins (local copy)

Install or refresh all plugins listed in a marketplace's .cursor-plugin/marketplace.json into Cursor's local plugin directory as real file trees. Never symlink.

Arguments: $ARGUMENTS — optional path to the marketplace root (directory that contains .cursor-plugin/marketplace.json). Defaults to the current workspace root when that file exists there.

Why

Cursor team-marketplace refresh lives on the web dashboard, not in the IDE, and cursor-agent has no marketplace update command. Copying catalog plugins into ~/.cursor/plugins/local/<name>/ is the reliable local install path. Symlinks into worktrees break when the worktree goes away.

Workflow

  1. Resolve the marketplace root:
    • If $ARGUMENTS is a non-empty path, use it.
    • Else if ./.cursor-plugin/marketplace.json exists, use ..
    • Else ask the user for the marketplace root path.
  2. Confirm the manifest exists: <root>/.cursor-plugin/marketplace.json.
  3. Run the bundled updater (one Bash call — do not hand-roll cp/ln):
python3 "<skill-or-plugin-root>/skills/update-cursor-plugins/scripts/update_cursor_plugins.py" "<marketplace-root>"

When this skill is running from an installed marketplace plugin, prefer:

python3 "${CURSOR_PLUGIN_ROOT:-${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}}/skills/update-cursor-plugins/scripts/update_cursor_plugins.py" "<marketplace-root>"

If neither plugin-root env is set (dev checkout), resolve the script relative to this skill's directory.

  1. Report the script's copied= / skipped= summary to the user.
  2. Tell the user to run Developer: Reload Window, then enable plugins under Customize and confirm hooks under Settings → Hooks.

Rules

  • Don't create symlinks into ~/.cursor/plugins/local/ (or anywhere else for this install).
  • Don't point local installs at ephemeral worktrees; copy from a durable marketplace checkout (or the repo root you intend to keep).
  • Don't invent a second copy destination — default is ~/.cursor/plugins/local (override only if the user explicitly asks).
  • The script skips entries whose source dir is missing or that lack .cursor-plugin/plugin.json, and replaces an existing destination symlink with a real tree.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
