sqlalchemy

A Python toolkit for working with SQL databases. Its object-relational mapper, or ORM, lets Python classes and objects represent database tables and records.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to define models, build queries, manage database sessions and transactions, and connect Python applications to databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite.
Why use it?
It reduces the need to write database access code separately for every operation or database system, while still allowing direct SQL-style queries.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00040 $0.04618
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.02309
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00924
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00462

Security

Grade A, and why

sqlalchemy scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

SQLAlchemy Skill

SQLAlchemy is the Python SQL toolkit and Object Relational Mapper that provides the full power and flexibility of SQL. It consists of two main components: Core (SQL Expression Language) and ORM (Object Relational Mapper).

When to Use This Skill

Use SQLAlchemy when:

  • Working with relational databases in Python
  • Defining database models as Python classes
  • Building SQL queries programmatically
  • Managing database transactions and sessions
  • Mapping Python objects to database tables
  • Need database-agnostic code that works across PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, etc.

Installation

pip install sqlalchemy

# For async support
pip install sqlalchemy[asyncio]

Engine and Connection

The Engine is the starting point for SQLAlchemy applications:

from sqlalchemy import create_engine

# SQLite (in-memory)
engine = create_engine("sqlite://", echo=True)

# SQLite (file-based)
engine = create_engine("sqlite:///mydatabase.db")

# PostgreSQL
engine = create_engine("postgresql+psycopg2://user:password@localhost/dbname")

# MySQL
engine = create_engine("mysql+pymysql://user:password@localhost/dbname")

# Connection pool settings
engine = create_engine(
    "postgresql+psycopg2://user:password@localhost/dbname",
    pool_size=5, # Number of connections to keep open
    max_overflow=10,       # Additional connections allowed
    pool_timeout=30, # Seconds to wait for connection
    pool_recycle=1800,     # Recycle connections after N seconds
)

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

sqlalchemy is a skill published in the GitHub repository pavelzw/skill-forge (23 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed BSD-3-Clause. It adds 40 tokens to every session and 4,618 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
