replace-current-session

replace-current-session is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Pawel-Kica/claude-code-100. It costs 22 tokens per session (320 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A handoff workflow that starts a fresh coding-agent session in a new terminal tab and closes the current one after the replacement is verified.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when a task should continue in a new session, with the same project folder, a focused brief, and confirmation that the new session is alive.
Why use it?
It transfers the task context in a written handoff so work can continue without leaving an unverified or incomplete successor.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00022 $0.00320
Opus 5 $0.00011 $0.00160
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00064
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00032

Measured 5d ago against content hash 9c6413bc6136, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

replace-current-session scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Swap this session for a fresh one. Deterministic: the same three steps every run, no branching on what the conversation produced.

Abort rule: any step fails → report it and keep this session alive. Never close without a live successor.

  1. Handoff — run the /handoff skill, passing the args as the successor's focus. It writes the doc to ~/.claude/handoffs/. A spec, plan, or PR already on disk gets referenced by path inside the handoff, not duplicated (handoff's own rule) — if the next move is implementing it, the handoff says so.
  2. Spawn — successor in the same cwd, focused:
    ~/.claude/skills/spawn-new-session/scripts/spawn-agent.sh \
      --brief <handoff-path> --cwd "$PWD" --label <slug> --focus true \
--prompt "Read the handoff at <handoff-path> and continue the work."

  3. Verify, then diecmux read-screen --surface <ref> --lines 30, expect the Claude TUI. Then, as the final tool call of the turn, cmux close-surface --surface "$CMUX_SURFACE_ID". Say goodbye before the close, not after — nothing after it survives.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
