migrate-angularjs

migrate-angularjs is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Phaedra-Solutions/cursor-rules. It costs 120 tokens per session (1,170 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A migration guide for replacing AngularJS 1.x, the discontinued older Angular platform, with modern Angular or another chosen framework.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inventory routes, directives, services, modules, build tools, and tests, then move the application while it continues to operate.
Why use it?
It helps plan around unfixed security issues and choose between a gradual hybrid migration, route-by-route replacement, or a full rewrite.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00120 $0.01170
Opus 5.5 $0.00048 $0.00468
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00024 $0.00234
Haiku 4.5 $0.00012 $0.00117

Security

Grade A, and why

migrate-angularjs scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Migrate AngularJS → Angular

When to use

  • The app depends on angular 1.x and the user wants to move to Angular (or another framework).
  • Security review flagged the unfixed AngularJS CVEs (see legacy/angularjs).

Before you start

  • Inventory: AngularJS version, module count, routes (ngRoute or ui-router), directives with link/compile functions, filters, $scope usage, third-party AngularJS modules, build tool (none, gulp, grunt, webpack), and test coverage.
  • Ask the user to choose an approach (explain the trade-offs):
    • Hybrid (ngUpgrade): AngularJS and Angular run in one page; migrate component by component. Best for large apps that must keep shipping. Requires a bundler and TypeScript.
    • Strangler (per route): a new Angular app serves migrated routes; a proxy or server routes the rest to the old app. Simpler runtime, but shared UI (header, auth) must exist in both.
    • Full rewrite: for small apps or ones with little reusable logic; freeze the old app behind compensating controls until cut-over.
  • Target: the current Angular major (22; see frontend/angular) with standalone components.
  • Working tree clean; new branch; E2E tests (Playwright or Cypress) for main flows. Add them first if missing.

Steps

Prepare the AngularJS app (all approaches)

  1. Upgrade to AngularJS 1.8.3 and fix console warnings.
  2. Follow the AngularJS style that maps to Angular: one component per file, .component() with </& bindings instead of $scope-heavy controllers and two-way = bindings, services instead of $rootScope events, controllerAs syntax.
  3. Introduce a module bundler (webpack or Vite) and TypeScript for the AngularJS code if they're missing; replace script-tag ordering with imports.
  4. Replace jQuery-heavy directives and AngularJS-only third-party modules with plain code or libraries that have Angular equivalents.

Hybrid with ngUpgrade

  1. Create the Angular app (standalone bootstrap) and add @angular/upgrade; bootstrap the hybrid with UpgradeModule (or downgradeModule for lazy Angular).
  2. Migrate services first (upgrade AngularJS services with providers, or write Angular services and downgrade them with downgradeInjectable).
  3. Migrate leaf components to Angular and expose them to AngularJS templates with downgradeComponent; upgrade AngularJS components that Angular needs with UpgradeComponent only temporarily.
  4. Move routing last: switch the router to Angular's once most routes' components are Angular, keeping AngularJS routes behind a catch-all during the transition.
  5. Remove AngularJS when no AngularJS components, services or routes remain; drop @angular/upgrade.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

migrate-angularjs is a skill published in the GitHub repository Phaedra-Solutions/cursor-rules (4 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 120 tokens to every session and 1,170 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-11-01.
