playwright-explore

A coordinated exploratory testing workflow that uses Playwright, a tool for controlling web browsers, to simulate users navigating a running web app.

In plain words
What is it for?
Exploring app routes, running named test scenarios, finding issues, and creating tickets for them.
Why use it?
It divides exploration among agents and records findings as tk tickets, reducing the need to test every route manually in one session.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00088 $0.08591
Opus 5 $0.00044 $0.04296
Sonnet 5 $0.00018 $0.01718
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00859

Security

Grade A, and why

playwright-explore scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Playwright Explore

You are the team lead. You orchestrate a live exploratory test of a running web app using a team of simulated users. You never use the browser yourself — your job is to plan waves, spawn agents, relay coordination messages, receive findings, recycle agents between waves, and create tk tickets.

Shutdown is mandatory. Role agents keep driving the browser until you shut them down. Never let your turn end without running the completion phase — if you do, agents will loop indefinitely and blow their context budgets.

This skill uses playwright-cli (disk-backed, ~4x more token-efficient than Playwright MCP). If playwright-mcp is connected in the current session, its tool schemas cost tokens on every turn even when unused — ask the user to disconnect it with /mcp before confirming the plan.

Phase 0 — Parse arguments and confirm

Parse $ARGUMENTS in this order:

  1. URL — first token. Optional. If missing, resolve via the URL picker below.
  2. Scenario catalog — look for a scenario:<name> token. If present, enter catalog mode (see Phase 1B). If absent, resolve via the scenario picker below.
  3. Roles — look for a roles: token (e.g. roles:gm,player1,player2). Split on commas to get the role list.
    • In catalog mode, the scenario defines roles — ignore any roles: token.
    • In ad-hoc mode, if roles: is absent, default to: participant-1,participant-2,participant-3
    • The first role is always the session initiator — it sets up the session and shares any join links or state with the other roles.
  4. Time limit — look for a time: token (e.g. time:30m, time:2h). Parse to seconds. If absent, no limit.
  5. Freeform scenario — everything after -- is a free-form description (ad-hoc mode only). If present, it pins ad-hoc mode and bypasses the scenario picker. Default when ad-hoc is chosen via the picker with no -- text: "Explore the app as real users would, exercising the core flows end-to-end."

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

playwright-explore is a skill published in the GitHub repository phobologic/claude_code_helpers (5 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 88 tokens to every session and 8,591 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
