runtime-diagnostics

runtime-diagnostics is a skill for Claude Code from pioneerdotai/pioneer. It costs 49 tokens per session (1,227 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A diagnostic guide for investigating Pioneer Gateway or desktop runtime problems such as high CPU or memory use, slow work, queues, and stalls.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to identify resource-consuming processes, the work that started them, where they wait, and which functions run during a problem.
Why use it?
It provides a safe investigation process that avoids stopping the process being investigated and uses existing metrics, snapshots, profiles, and release symbols.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00049 $0.01227
Opus 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00491
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00245
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00123

Security

Grade A, and why

runtime-diagnostics scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Pioneer Runtime Diagnostics

Find which process consumes resources, what work initiated it, where it waits, and which functions run during the problem. Use the existing pioneer diagnostics commands and telemetry before proposing new instrumentation or changing code.

Protect the session that is doing the investigation

The investigating agent may run inside the Gateway, desktop, or a child of the process it is investigating. Treat that dependency as present unless verified otherwise. Never stop, restart, replace, upgrade, or relaunch those processes from the agent's tools. Do not run pioneer stop, pioneer start, gateway-service, launch-memory, service-manager mutations, quit commands, or signals against them. Do not stop their containers, remote hosts, or supervisors. A detached shell, background task, or subagent does not make a restart safe.

Snapshot, bundle, symbol download/validation, and a bounded native attach capture can usually run autonomously under an authorized diagnostic request. Preserve the user's telemetry preference and OS attach permissions. If a restart is required, prepare the complete user handoff in references/restart-memory.md: exact paths and commands, what to reproduce, when to stop, how to restore ordinary launch, and how to continue this investigation. The user executes that handoff from a terminal outside Pioneer. Do not execute its restart blocks yourself.

Four capabilities

  1. Process resources and identity: one run/build identity; CPU and OS memory/IO snapshots for the target and registered children, with freshness and coverage.
  2. Native CPU and memory captures: bounded on-demand profiles, manifests, private artifacts, and exact Mach-O UUID / ELF build ID / PE GUID+age symbols.
  3. Work ownership: parent/linked work, trigger, attempt, executor and available trace/span context carried across instrumented execution boundaries.
  4. Live diagnosis: active work and waits, queue accounting, database pool state, runtime/foreground responsiveness, export health and bounded prehistory.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

runtime-diagnostics is a skill published in the GitHub repository pioneerdotai/pioneer (22 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 49 tokens to every session and 1,227 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-23.
