battlegrid-strategy-doctor

battlegrid-strategy-doctor is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from playbattlegrid/battlegrid-mcp. It costs 0 tokens per session (2,071 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A read-only diagnostic guide for trading agents. It explains why an agent did not trade, stopped, or is healthy by using its structured status and reason fields.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to investigate blocked trades, stopped agents, health reports, and the specific configuration lever that would address a problem.
Why use it?
It avoids diagnosing an agent from vague messages or changing it while investigating. It also distinguishes a healthy decision not to trade from an actual failure.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.02071
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.01035

Security

Grade A, and why

battlegrid-strategy-doctor scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Strategy Doctor

The player configured an agent, pointed real money at it, and something did not happen. Your job is to find out what, from the fields that actually say so — and then to say what would change it, in terms of levers that exist.

Everything here is a read. You have no write path, and you do not acquire one by finding a problem: the fix runs through the flow that owns it, with that flow's own confirms.

The five failures this flow exists to prevent

  1. Diagnosing from prose. Cue: reaching for a journal entry's wording, or the agent's overlay text, to explain a block. The typed reason codes exist; use them. → step 2.
  2. Pathologizing healthy. Cue: the reads come back clean and the answer feels too short. An agent that evaluated and correctly declined to trade is working. → step 3.
  3. Mixing reason vocabularies. Cue: two different-looking codes that seem to mean the same thing. Six overlapping vocabularies describe why an evaluation ended. You read exactly one. → step 2.
  4. A private write path. Cue: "shall I just fix it?" once you know the answer. → step 5.
  5. Running the billed deployment test. Cue: wanting to see what the agent "would have picked". → the negatives below.

Sequence

1. Triage from the fields that carry health

Three reads, and they are not interchangeable:

  • get_agent_budget — the health read. haltReason (why it stopped, if it did), blockedReason + blockedSince (the typed pipeline block currently standing, and since when), and gauges — four guardrail meters (dailyTrades, exposure, drawdown, dailyLoss), each with a server-computed breached flag. Read breached; never compare fill against limit yourself.
  • list_gate_blocks — its summary[] groups every rejection by (stage, reason) with a count and a latestAt. That count spans all of the agent's rows, not the requested page — never sum counts across pages.
  • get_agent_automation_statusdeployment coverage only. Its payload is assignments and assignable presets; it carries no health verdict. Use it to answer "is this agent deployed anywhere at all" — an agent with no assignment cannot trade in Arena no matter how healthy the rest reads — and never as evidence that automation is or is not "fine".

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
