device-file-search

device-file-search is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from pockebot/openpocket. It costs 22 tokens per session (641 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A procedure for finding and verifying files on Android storage, especially recently edited photos and videos. It returns the full path of an existing file so another app can use it.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it before sharing or uploading photos and videos from an Android device. It helps locate camera files, downloads, editor exports, and other media.
Why use it?
It avoids uploading the wrong file or repeatedly searching through old media. It checks the most likely folders first and prefers the newest matching item.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00022 $0.00641
Opus 5 $0.00011 $0.00320
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00128
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00064

Security

Grade A, and why

device-file-search scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Use this skill when you need to find a saved file on the Agent Phone, then upload/share it in an app.

Goal

  • Return a real, existing absolute file path.
  • Prefer the newest matching file.
  • Avoid repeated blind searches.

Default Search Order

  1. Check likely output folders first:
  • /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera
  • /storage/emulated/0/Pictures
  • /storage/emulated/0/Download
  • /storage/emulated/0/Movies
  1. For editor-specific outputs, try app-named subfolders:
  • /storage/emulated/0/Pictures/CapCut
  • /storage/emulated/0/Movies/CapCut
  • /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera
  1. Only if still missing, run a wider find under /storage/emulated/0.

Command Patterns

Use shell (device-side), not workspace exec.

  • Quick latest list: shell("sh -lc 'ls -1t /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera | head -n 20'")

  • Wider image search: shell("sh -lc 'find /storage/emulated/0 -type f \\( -iname \"*.jpg\" -o -iname \"*.jpeg\" -o -iname \"*.png\" -o -iname \"*.webp\" \\) | head -n 400'")

  • Wider video search: shell("sh -lc 'find /storage/emulated/0 -type f \\( -iname \"*.mp4\" -o -iname \"*.mov\" -o -iname \"*.mkv\" \\) | head -n 400'")

  • Verify one candidate path: shell("ls -l /storage/emulated/0/DCIM/Camera/<filename>")

Reliability Rules

  • Prefer /storage/emulated/0/... over /sdcard/... (symlink issues can hide find results).
  • If /sdcard must be used, use find -L /sdcard ....
  • After editing/saving, prioritize files modified in the last few minutes.
  • Before telling the user "not found", verify at least 2 directories + 1 wide search.

After Found

  • Keep the exact absolute path in memory for the rest of the task.
  • Reuse the same path for upload/share actions.
  • If upload fails, retry with the same verified path before starting a new search.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
