In plain words
What is it for?

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00067 $0.00724
Opus 5 $0.00034 $0.00362
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00145
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00072

Security

Grade A, and why

gitshelf-cli scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 78 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

GitShelf CLI

GitShelf deploys content to GitHub Pages at zero server cost. Upload a PDF and it becomes a multi-chapter book with TOC and reader UI; upload Markdown and it renders as a document; upload a ZIP and it hosts as a static site. Everything is processed by GitHub Actions and served from GitHub Pages.

Operate a GitShelf repository from the command line.

  • Prefer running commands through npx gitshelf instead of invoking repository source files directly.

  • Treat .pdf uploads as book items.

  • Treat .md uploads as doc items.

  • Treat .zip uploads as site items.

  • Require index.html inside each uploaded site archive.

Config

  • Store the default repo and token in ~/.config/gitshelf/config.json.
  • Store a local override in .gitshelfrc inside the current working directory when needed.
  • Use these keys:
{
  "repo": "owner/repo",
  "token": "github_pat_xxx"
}
  • Resolve config in this order: CLI flags -> GITSHELF_TOKEN / GITSHELF_REPO -> .gitshelfrc -> ~/.config/gitshelf/config.json

Common commands

  • Run list to discover item ids.
  • Run upload to send new content.
  • Run info, edit, delete, and reconvert against existing items.
  • Run failures to inspect or retry processing errors.
npx gitshelf list
npx gitshelf list --type site --json
npx gitshelf info book:my-book
npx gitshelf upload ./article.md
npx gitshelf upload ./book.pdf
npx gitshelf upload ./site.zip
npx gitshelf edit doc:my-article --title "New title"
npx gitshelf delete site:my-site --yes
npx gitshelf reconvert book:my-book
npx gitshelf failures --json

npx usage

  • Default to npx gitshelf ... for CLI usage.
  • Add NPM_CONFIG_CACHE=/tmp/gitshelf-npm-cache only if npx fails because its default cache path is not writable.
npx gitshelf list
npx gitshelf upload ./site.zip
NPM_CONFIG_CACHE=/tmp/gitshelf-npm-cache npx gitshelf upload ./site.zip

Item selectors

  • Pass either id or type:id to commands that target existing content.
  • Prefer type:id when ids may collide.
  • Use only book, doc, and site as item types.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
