android-design-system-m3

android-design-system-m3 is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from prasad-vennam/Awesome-Android-AI-Agent-Skills. It costs 30 tokens per session (1,160 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Guidance for building Material 3 design systems in Android apps made with Jetpack Compose, Google's toolkit for writing Android interfaces in Kotlin.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create custom themes, light and dark modes, dynamic color, reusable interface components, or one app that supports multiple brands.
Why use it?
It helps keep colors, text styles, shapes, dark mode, and personalized system colors consistent across an app instead of scattering one-off values through the interface.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00030 $0.01160
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00580
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00232
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00116

Security

Grade A, and why

android-design-system-m3 scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Android Design Systems (Material 3) 🎨🛠️

Advanced strategies for building scalable, cohesive, and professional design systems for modern Android applications using the Material 3 (M3) framework.

⚡ When to Use

  • Branding Architecture: Defining custom color tokens, typography, and shapes.
  • Dark Mode Support: Implementing unified themes that swap automatically.
  • Dynamic Color: Using DynamicColor for personalized system-wide tinting.
  • Component Libraries: Building reusable Atom/Molecule components.
  • Multi-Brand Support: Creating one app code for multiple visual identities.

🏗️ The 3 Pillars of M3 Design Systems

  1. Color Scheme: Light/Dark palettes, surface variations, and semantic tokens (Primary, Error, OnPrimary).
  2. Typography: Defined scales (HeadlineLarge, BodyMedium, LabelSmall) based on modern fonts.
  3. Shapes: Corner radii for cards, buttons, and surfaces.

🧱 Creating Your Theme

  • Rule: NEVER use hex codes in your UI code. ALWAYS use semantic tokens from your theme.
  • Bad: color = Color(0xFFAA44CC)
  • Good: color = MaterialTheme.colorScheme.primary

1. The Theme Composable

@Composable
fun AppTheme(
    darkTheme: Boolean = isSystemInDarkTheme(),
    dynamicColor: Boolean = true,
    content: @Composable () -> Unit
) {
    val colorScheme = when {
        dynamicColor && Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.S -> {
            if (darkTheme) dynamicDarkColorScheme(context) else dynamicLightColorScheme(context)
        }
        darkTheme -> DarkColorScheme
        else -> LightColorScheme
    }

    MaterialTheme(colorScheme = colorScheme, typography = Typography, shapes = Shapes, content = content)

2. Mandatory Scaffold Files

When a user asks to "create a new project" or "set up a screen", ALWAYS ensure these three files are explicitly created in the ui/theme package to prevent Theme not found errors:

  1. Theme.kt (containing the main Theme composable)
  2. Color.kt (containing hex colors and M3 ColorSchemes)
  3. Type.kt (containing Compose Typography)
  • Provide these files outright if they are missing.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
