qemu-build

qemu-build is a skill for Codex from processmission/oh-my-qemu. It costs 67 tokens per session (1,584 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A controlled workflow for configuring, reusing, building, and diagnosing QEMU, software that emulates computers and runs virtual machines. It organizes builds by target and records evidence in an audit folder.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for target-specific, debug, sanitizer, or trace builds; diagnosing build or runtime problems; recording the starting Git state; and keeping QEMU builds, dependencies, scripts, and logs in defined locations.
Why use it?
It makes QEMU builds reproducible and keeps decisions, commands, logs, configurations, and gaps separate from source code and unrelated files.

Skill for Codex

Written for Codex: agents/openai.yaml present. Also seen: mentions subagents.

Needs its repository: it reads a path above its own folder, which exists only inside the repository. The line is ../../configure --target-list=aarch64-softmmu.

Good fit Use it for target-specific, debug, sanitizer, or trace builds; diagnosing build or runtime problems; recording the starting Git state; and keeping QEMU builds, dependencies, scripts, and logs in defined locations.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00067 $0.01584
Opus 5.5 $0.00027 $0.00634
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00317
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00158

Security

Grade A, and why

qemu-build scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 18d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/preflight.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

QEMU Build

Audit workflow

For a non-trivial task that writes to the workspace, use only the needed entries under .oh-my-qemu/<task-slug>/: audit.md (baseline, plan, decisions, evidence, verification, and gaps), commands.md (redacted commands, working directories, and results), logs/ (decisive build, test, and runtime output), scripts/ (probes, parsers, and harnesses), and output/ (generated deliverables, third-party dependencies, and non-QEMU binaries). Keep QEMU's own build tree at source-root builds/build-<target>/, never an unqualified build/. In a Git worktree, add .agents/, .oh-my-qemu/, and builds/ to the file from git rev-parse --git-path info/exclude before writing artifacts or configuring QEMU; preserve existing entries and avoid duplicates. Never stage or commit these paths; stage source only when the user explicitly requests that separate action. At handoff, reconcile git status --short with the baseline and report the task directory, build directory, source changes, pre-existing changes, and unresolved gaps.

QEMU upstream boundary

QEMU's official GitLab and mailing lists are upstream channels. A patch becomes an upstream contribution when it is sent to the maintainers selected through MAINTAINERS. Do not prepare or send agent-generated code, documentation, commit messages, or patches for upstream submission; see the checked-out tree's docs/devel/code-provenance.rst. Research, debugging, analysis, local experiments, verification, and workflow guidance remain allowed. Local branches, commits, patch files, pushes, and pull requests are not by themselves upstream contributions; perform those Git actions only when requested.

Scope boundary

This skill configures and builds the QEMU source tree only. Use qemu-kernel-build for Linux kernel artifacts and qemu-uboot-build for U-Boot and firmware-stage artifacts. One named build directory per component; one skill per build class.

Build directory rule

Use a descriptive directory under source-root builds/ for every configuration, such as builds/build-aarch64/ or builds/build-riscv64-debug/. Never configure QEMU in build/, the source root, or the task output/ directory. Reuse a directory only when its recorded configuration matches the task.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
