pdd-small-change

pdd-small-change is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from promptdriven/pdd. It costs 53 tokens per session (439 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A step-by-step workflow for a small, contained code change that is easy to undo, such as a typo, configuration value, or minor fix. It separates planning, implementation, checking, and pull-request preparation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for a narrowly scoped fix: agree on the plan, make the change, run verification, record the result, and prepare one pull request.
Why use it?
It keeps a small change from expanding into unplanned work and ensures the result is checked by a separate agent. It also requires human approval at key points and prevents the workflow from pushing or merging changes automatically.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: mentions subagents.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00053 $0.00439
Opus 5.5 $0.00021 $0.00176
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00088
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00044

Security

Grade A, and why

pdd-small-change scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

PDD small change

Use this for a small change with a clear effect that is easy to undo. If the impact grows, suggest pdd-bug or pdd-feature.

Each area is one main chat. Step briefs are in steps/.

  1. plan: scope → gate: approve
  2. build: change, verify, formal → gate: pr

Rules

  • The main chat coordinates and talks with the person. It does not write code.
  • Run each step in a new subagent, never reused, so verify never checks its own code. Give it its full brief at once: the step file and file paths, not the chat history. Then wait for it with one long time-out. Do not send small follow-up messages or use short waits.
  • At a gate, show the result, ask the person, and stop. For changes, revise here and ask again.
  • Write each link as its full URL (https://…), never as a linked word.
  • Before an optional step, ask the person and wait for the answer. In a run, run <pdd> workflow ask first.
  • A person decides expected values. Never change a test to make it pass.
  • Never push, open a PR or merge.

In a run (see the first message)

  • Each step writes notes to <run folder>/STEP.md and commits its code.
  • When you need the person's answer in the middle of a step, run <pdd> workflow ask "<question>" first. Then ask it in a plain chat message (never a question dialog such as request_user_input) and end your turn. The person answers in the chat or with pdd workflow changes N "answer".
  • When the person approves in their own words, run <pdd> workflow approve N. Never approve for them.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
