password-hash-review

password-hash-review is a skill for Claude Code from Pusparaj99op/blackarch-AI. It costs 27 tokens per session (299 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

An offline audit of password hashes supplied in a specific local folder. Password hashes are one-way representations used to store passwords without keeping the original text.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to assess an authorized exported password database, count weak results, and guide password resets and policy changes.
Why use it?
It identifies weak or recoverable passwords without connecting to a live system or exposing recovered passwords in the report.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00027 $0.00299
Opus 5 $0.00014 $0.00150
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00060
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00030

Security

Grade B, and why

password-hash-review scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Reaches for credential filesmediumPrivilege escalation

SSH keys, cloud credentials, git-credentials, .npmrc, /etc/shadow: reading these is how a config file becomes a credential leak.

1. Confirm with the user which file in `data/hashes/` to audit and what hash format it is (e.g. NTLM, bcrypt, SHA-256, /etc/shadow yescrypt).

Downgraded: this mod is about security review, or the phrase is quoted, so it is likely naming the pattern rather than instructing it.

What it actually says

Password hash review

Guardrail: only ever operate on files the user has deliberately placed in data/hashes/ for an authorized password-strength audit (e.g. their own exported password database). This skill never touches a network target, and crack_hash_offline refuses any file outside data/hashes/.

  1. Confirm with the user which file in data/hashes/ to audit and what hash format it is (e.g. NTLM, bcrypt, SHA-256, /etc/shadow yescrypt).
  2. Pick the matching hash_mode for hashcat, or --format value for john, and choose tool accordingly.
  3. Call crack_hash_offline with a reasonable wordlist (e.g. /usr/share/wordlists/rockyou.txt if present).
  4. Summarize the ratio of cracked/weak vs. uncracked/strong hashes — do not print recovered plaintext passwords in the summary, just counts and general weakness patterns (e.g. "12 of 40 accounts used a dictionary word").
  5. Recommend remediation (password policy, forcing resets for cracked accounts) rather than listing the raw credentials.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

password-hash-review is a skill published in the GitHub repository Pusparaj99op/blackarch-AI (0 stars, last pushed 25d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 27 tokens to every session and 299 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (reaches for credential files). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
