broken-link-scan is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Quality-Max/free-qa-skills. It costs 47 tokens per session (436 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A website checker that follows links on a page and looks for missing pages, failed requests, redirects, and timeouts.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps audit internal links on websites and produce a report showing each problem and where the link appears.
Why use it?
It finds links that may lead visitors to errors or outdated destinations, so you do not have to test them one by one.

Getting it into your agent

One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00047 $0.00436
Opus 5 $0.00023 $0.00218
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00087
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00044

Security

Grade A, and why

broken-link-scan scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Find every broken link on a page. No signup required.

Prerequisites

  • Playwright MCP (comes with Claude Code)

Trigger

  • "Find broken links on https://..."
  • "Check for 404s on my site"
  • "Scan links on this page"

Workflow

  1. Navigate to the URL using mcp__playwright__browser_navigate
  2. Extract all links using mcp__playwright__browser_evaluate:
() => {
  return Array.from(document.querySelectorAll('a[href]')).map(a => ({
    text: a.textContent.trim().substring(0, 50),
    href: a.href,
    isExternal: a.host !== location.host
  }));
}
  1. For each link (up to 50), check status:

    • Internal links: navigate and check for error pages
    • External links: note them but don't crawl (avoid rate limits)
    • Flag: 404, 500, redirect chains, empty href, javascript:void
  2. Output:

## Broken Link Report: [URL]

**Scanned: 34 links** (28 internal, 6 external)

### Broken (3)
- "About Us" → /about-us — 404 Not Found
- "Old Blog" → /blog/2023 — 301 → 404
- "Partner" → https://dead-link.com — timeout

### Redirects (2)
- "Login" → /login — 301 → /auth/login
- "Docs" → /documentation — 302 → /docs/v2

### External (not checked)
- https://github.com/...
- https://twitter.com/...

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
