infrastructure-mcp: Skill for Claude Code

.github/skills/infrastructure-mcp-operator/SKILL.md

infrastructure-mcp-operator is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from radumalica/infrastructure-mcp. It costs 50 tokens per session (460 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An operator for inspecting infrastructure through an already connected MCP server, a tool connection for accessing external systems. It covers servers, containers, clusters, dashboards, hypervisors, and Cisco devices while starting in read-only mode.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to discover infrastructure targets, inspect their state, and perform approved changes through the available named tools.
Why use it?
It provides a defined way to inspect live infrastructure without asking users to expose passwords, keys, or access tokens.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

This is radumalica/infrastructure-mcp's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on infrastructure-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything infrastructure-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00050 $0.00460
Opus 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00184
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00092
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00046

Security

Grade A, and why

infrastructure-mcp-operator scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 22d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Infrastructure MCP Operator

Use an already configured infrastructure-mcp connection to inspect real infrastructure without handling its credentials.

Safety Contract

  1. Verify that the required named MCP tools are available before calling them.
  2. Never ask the user to paste SSH keys, passwords, kubeconfigs, or API tokens.
  3. Do not use run_command, docker_exec or kubectl_exec, even if available. They are unrestricted opt-in escape hatches, not part of this workflow.
  4. Start read-only. Do not call a mutating tool unless the user requested the change and explicitly approved the exact target and action.
  5. Use only inventory target names and service instance names accepted by the tools. Never invent a hostname, address, namespace, or credential.
  6. Separate observed tool output from interpretation. Mark missing evidence and unavailable adapters explicitly.

Procedure

  1. Identify the user's operational question and the smallest relevant domain.
  2. Check the available MCP tool surface. If infrastructure-mcp is unavailable, stop and explain that the server must be installed and connected first.
  3. Discover targets with list_servers when the server name or tag is unknown.
  4. Select the narrowest named tools using the tool routing reference.
  5. Collect read-only evidence from broad status to specific detail. Avoid repeated or unbounded log requests.
  6. Return observations, interpretation, unknowns, and the next safe action.
  7. For state changes, stop after presenting the plan and wait for the user's explicit approval of the exact target and action.

Output

  • Scope: targets and systems inspected
  • Observed: facts returned by tools, including timestamps
  • Assessment: conclusions supported by those facts
  • Unknowns: missing tools, adapters, targets, or evidence
  • Next safe action: a read-only follow-up or a separately approved change
Files

What ships with it

1 file beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

infrastructure-mcp-operator is a skill published in the GitHub repository radumalica/infrastructure-mcp (5 stars, last pushed 22d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 50 tokens to every session and 460 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-15.
