In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inspect active skills, propose or apply skill-pack changes, activate packs, create backups, restore them, or diagnose SOS support for Codex or Claude Code.
Why use it?
It provides a controlled way to manage skill packs without assuming they are installed globally. It emphasizes read-only checks and dry runs before changes are made.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00039 $0.00367
Opus 5 $0.00019 $0.00183
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00073
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00037

Security

Grade A, and why

sos scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/sos_doctor.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

SOS Skill Orchestration

Use this skill for workflows around Skill Orchestration System (SOS) on Codex or Claude Code: inspecting active skills, proposing packs, creating reviewable plans, applying approved plans, activating packs, checking status, and restoring backups.

Default stance:

  • Start in no-global-install mode.
  • Use scripts/sos_doctor.py to detect whether SOS can run and which hosts are visible.
  • Resolve the host (--host codex or --host claude) before any write command.
  • Prefer read-only or dry-run commands before any write.
  • Keep deterministic writes in the SOS CLI.
  • Do not edit Codex config, Claude .sos-archive/, SOS vaults, manifests, registry files, backups, or generated pointer skills by hand.

Progressive disclosure:

  1. Read references/execution-modes.md when local capability is uncertain.
  2. Read references/workflows.md for the specific operation the user requested.
  3. Read references/safety-model.md before any write, restore, cleanup, sync apply, or source deletion.
  4. Read references/codex.md for Codex-specific config or skill-root behavior.
  5. Read references/claude-code.md for Claude-specific archive and skill-root behavior.

Do not load every reference up front. Do not paste the full CLI reference unless the user asks for command details or the selected workflow needs exact commands.

Keep README.md and README_CN.md aligned when user-facing install, usage, or workflow entry points change.

Files

What ships with it

6 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
