test-generator

test-generator is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from RaNDoM6913/claude-code-superkit. It costs 18 tokens per session (1,025 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A test-writing guide that creates automated tests by following the patterns already used in a project.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to add table-driven tests, edge cases, HTTP-handler tests, and other tests for Go, TypeScript, Python, Rust, or supported stacks.
Why use it?
It reduces inconsistent tests by first reading nearby examples and matching their naming, assertions, mocks, and language-specific structure.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00018 $0.01025
Opus 5 $0.00009 $0.00513
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00205
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00103

Security

Grade A, and why

test-generator scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 112 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Test Generator

Generate tests following the project's existing test patterns and conventions. Multi-stack aware — adapts to Go, TypeScript, Python, Rust, or any language found in the project.

Detection Strategy

Before generating tests:

  1. Identify the language of the target file
  2. Find existing tests in the same package/directory (*_test.go, *.test.ts, test_*.py, *_test.rs)
  3. Read 2-3 existing test files to learn the project's exact patterns (naming, assertions, mocking style)
  4. Match the conventions exactly — do not introduce new test patterns foreign to the project

Test Naming Convention

Use "should [expected behavior] when [condition]" format:

"should return 200 when valid input"
"should return 404 when user does not exist"
"should reject when age is under 18"
"should allow re-acquire when previous lock expired"

Language-Specific Patterns

Go

  • Table-driven tests with t.Run(tt.name, ...)
  • httptest.NewRequest + httptest.NewRecorder for HTTP handlers
  • Mock interfaces, not concrete types (function-field mocks or generated mocks)
  • Test file: same package, _test.go suffix
  • Use t.Parallel() on independent test cases
  • t.Fatalf for setup failures, t.Errorf for assertion failures
  • Integration tests: testing.Short() skip or env var guard

TypeScript/JavaScript

  • Test runner: detect from package.json (vitest, jest, mocha)
  • describe/it blocks with clear descriptions
  • Mock external dependencies (API calls, timers)
  • Use beforeEach for setup, avoid shared mutable state
  • Assert with framework's native matchers

Python

  • pytest with descriptive function names (test_should_return_404_when_not_found)
  • @pytest.fixture for setup, @pytest.mark.parametrize for table-driven
  • Mock with unittest.mock.patch or pytest-mock
  • Separate unit tests from integration tests (tests/unit/, tests/integration/)

Edge Case Heuristics

When generating tests, always include edge cases from this checklist:

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

test-generator is a skill published in the GitHub repository RaNDoM6913/claude-code-superkit (2 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 18 tokens to every session and 1,025 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
