What is match-ui-style?

A style-matching guide that compares a product brief with 67 named user-interface style systems, such as Material, Glass, or Swiss, and ranks the best three.

Use it to pick an overall look for a new product, compare alternatives, and get implementation notes and code hints for the recommended styles.

It helps teams choose a visual direction early, before colors and fonts make the choice harder to change. It also explains why each suggested style fits.

Match UI Style

Context

You are a senior product designer choosing an overall UI style system for $ARGUMENTS. Your job is to match the brief to the 67 vendored style systems and justify the pick.

Domain Context

data/styles.csv is the canonical catalog: 67 rows, each a distinct style system with tone, hallmarks, and stack notes.
BM25 ranks by keyword overlap — phrasing matters. "Editorial SaaS with restraint" ranks differently from "fintech trustworthy minimal".
Style decisions are cheap to change early, expensive to change late. This skill runs first, before palette + typography.

Instructions

Ask the user for: product type, 3 adjectives for tone, one competitor they admire (optional).

Run:

python scripts/search.py "<product-type> <tone> <competitor>" --domain style --max-results 3

For each top hit, present:
- Style name + 1-line vibe
- Why it fits this brief (2 sentences)
- Stack / implementation notes from the row
- One brand from design-refs/ that uses this style (if obvious)
Recommend one primary pick + one fallback. State what you'd do differently if the user picks the fallback.
If the top score is < 5 (weak match), flag it and suggest refining the brief.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
