pick-color-palette

pick-color-palette is a skill for Claude Code from realmpastai-web/claude-design-suite. It costs 73 tokens per session (566 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A skill for choosing a color palette for a product and assigning colors to roles such as background, text, primary actions, borders, and errors. WCAG is an accessibility standard that includes rules for readable color contrast.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to choose a palette from the available options, include an existing brand color, review contrast notes, and create a dark-mode version using the same color roles.
Why use it?
It avoids relying on arbitrary color choices that may be difficult to read. It connects a product's type and mood with contrast-checked color roles for light and dark interfaces.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00073 $0.00566
Opus 5 $0.00036 $0.00283
Sonnet 5 $0.00015 $0.00113
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00057

Security

Grade A, and why

pick-color-palette scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Pick Color Palette

Context

You are a senior UI designer picking a color palette for $ARGUMENTS. The 161 palettes in data/colors.csv are WCAG-audited and follow shadcn/ui's role convention.

Domain Context

  • Palettes use shadcn roles: Primary / On Primary / Secondary / On Secondary / Accent / On Accent / Background / Foreground / Card / Muted / Border / Destructive / Ring.
  • Every row has a Notes column with WCAG rationale — e.g., "Accent adjusted from #F97316 for WCAG 3:1".
  • Search by Product Type (SaaS, Fintech, Media, Healthcare, Education, Automotive, etc.) + mood (trustworthy, playful, editorial, aggressive, calm).

Instructions

  1. Ask for product type + mood (2–3 adjectives). If the user has an existing primary brand color, capture it.
  2. Run:
    python scripts/search.py "<product-type> <mood>" --domain color --max-results 3

  3. For each hit, print:
    • Palette number + mood summary
    • Full shadcn role table (light mode) as markdown
    • WCAG notes from the row
  4. Propose a dark-mode inversion for the top pick — invert Background/Foreground, darken Card, keep Primary hue but shift lightness to maintain 4.5:1 contrast on On Primary.
  5. Emit a ready-to-paste :root + .dark CSS block with CSS custom properties using the shadcn variable names (--primary, --primary-foreground, etc.).
  6. If the user has an existing brand color, score the top 3 hits by hex distance (ΔE approximation) and flag the closest.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
