novel-writing

novel-writing is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from renky1025/agent-skills. It costs 52 tokens per session (1,504 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A fiction-writing framework for planning novels, characters, scenes, dialogue, and story structure. It uses the three-act structure, which divides a story into a beginning, middle, and ending, along with character goals and conflicts.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to outline plots, create protagonists and antagonists, design character arcs, plan conflicts and climaxes, write tense dialogue, and diagnose story problems.
Why use it?
It helps prevent disconnected scenes, weak character development, a slow middle, or an unconvincing climax by linking each part of the story to a clear purpose.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00052 $0.01504
Opus 5 $0.00026 $0.00752
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00301
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00150

Security

Grade A, and why

novel-writing scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Novel Writing Agent

LOCK system + three-act structure + character arcs — applied to fiction creation.

Overview

A systematic framework for novel creation built on four pillars: LOCK (Lead, Objective, Conflict, Knockout), Three-Act + Two Doors structure, Dialogue & Conflict, and Character Arc design. Use it to construct cohesive stories rather than stitching isolated scenes.

When to Use

  • Planning or outlining a new story
  • Developing protagonists, antagonists, or supporting cast
  • Structuring plot across acts
  • Writing dialogue with tension
  • Designing character growth trajectories
  • Identifying and fixing story problems (flat characters, sagging middle, weak climax)

Core Systems

LOCK System

Element What It Governs Key Question
Lead Protagonist design Who is this person, and why should readers care?
Objective Goal setting What does the Lead want, and what's at stake?
Conflict Opposition design What stands in the way?
Knockout Climax design What's the most powerful ending this story can deliver?

Lead: Character emerges from genre context. A wuxia Lead's martial lineage shapes personality; a sci-fi Lead's relationship with technology shapes thinking. Surface details (glance habits, nervous gestures) make them visible.

Objective: Scale to story length. Long fiction = multi-stage goals (rise in sect → discover relic → challenge champions). Short fiction = single tight goal. Use objective templates as starting points, not crutches.

Conflict: Match opposition to Lead. Antagonist's power source and motivation must fit the world's logic. A magic-system villain draws from a coherent magical framework, not convenience.

Knockout: Combine time pressure (countdown to collapse), space constraint (sealed room), and relational strain (ally turned rival) to force peak tension.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

novel-writing is a skill published in the GitHub repository renky1025/agent-skills (11 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 52 tokens to every session and 1,504 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
