orchestrating-agent-work

orchestrating-agent-work is a skill for Claude Code from richfrem/agent-plugins-skills. It costs 115 tokens per session (1,424 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An interactive workflow for planning and supervising complex engineering work with multiple agents or execution steps. It chooses between a directed graph of ordered tasks and a loop of repeated delegation, then verifies the results.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to diagnose a task, select an execution strategy, plan delegated work, supervise isolated runs, require human approval, and review the resulting git diff.
Why use it?
It provides a structured way to handle ambiguous, multi-step work without accepting agent output before checking tests and changes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00115 $0.01424
Opus 5.5 $0.00046 $0.00570
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00023 $0.00285
Haiku 4.5 $0.00012 $0.00142

Security

Grade A, and why

orchestrating-agent-work scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 13 executable files (scripts/agent_orchestrator.py, scripts/graph_runner.py, scripts/select_strategy.py, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Orchestrating Agent Work (orchestrating-agent-work)

Interactive front door: analyze the task, conduct diagnostic interview, select Graph vs. Loop, plan, execute, and verify.

Contents

Dependencies

Requires Python 3.8+ (standard library only).

Constraints

  • Interactive Confirmation: Ask at most 3 questions (one per turn) for ambiguous dimensions; present structured choices with Option A [Recommended]; human confirms or overrides selection before planning.
  • Topology First (Graph vs. Loop): Choose Graph (DAG) for distinct steps, parallel fan-out reads, or ordering barriers; choose Loop for iterative delegation.
  • Trust but Verify: Never accept worker output without running automated test suites and auditing the git diff.
  • Loop Isolation: Inner execution loops are strictly forbidden from running git write commands (commits and merges stay with caller).
  • Confinement & Redirection: Workspace mutations run in an isolated worktree; background CLI calls redirect stdin (< /dev/null).
  • Human Gate Integrity: Graph runs with --approval none require an explicit human-approved manifest SHA; never self-sign manifests you wrote.

Quick Start

python3 scripts/select_strategy.py --out docs/plans/work-tasks/<task-id>/
python3 scripts/validate_manifest.py graph-manifest.json
python3 scripts/graph_runner.py graph-manifest.json --worktree .worktrees/task-<id> --approval prompt

Workflow

  1. Analyze: Ingest requirements, evaluate dependency structure, ordering barriers, concurrency, and risk (routing-and-closure.md).
  2. Interview & Select: Ask 1–3 structured questions; run select_strategy.py; present Graph (DAG) vs Loop (Dual-Loop vs Swarm); confirm human agreement (strategy-selection.md).
  3. Plan:
  4. Execute:
    • Graph: Run state machine via graph_runner.py with worktree isolation and rollback (graph-execution.md).
    • Dual-Loop: Dispatch tactical coding worker into isolated worktree with stdin redirection (< /dev/null).
    • Parallel Swarm: Run swarm_run.py with resume support.
  5. Verify & Close: Run test suites, audit diffs (agent_orchestrator.py verify), and complete retrospective survey before completion.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

orchestrating-agent-work is a skill published in the GitHub repository richfrem/agent-plugins-skills (7 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 115 tokens to every session and 1,424 once invoked, about $0.0005 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-24.
