os-control-signing-setup

os-control-signing-setup is a skill for Claude Code from richfrem/agent-plugins-skills. It costs 111 tokens per session (610 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for a human operator to create and test an SSH signing key used for approval gates. An SSH signing key provides a cryptographic proof that an approval came from the person holding the key.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to set up passphrase-protected or hardware-backed signing on macOS or Windows, configure trusted signer files, and run the signing self-test.
Why use it?
It keeps private keys and approval actions in the human's hands instead of having an agent create or imitate them. It also checks whether the approval setup is ready.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00111 $0.00610
Opus 5.5 $0.00044 $0.00244
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00022 $0.00122
Haiku 4.5 $0.00011 $0.00061

Security

Grade A, and why

os-control-signing-setup scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 37 executable files (scripts/control_plane/__init__.py, scripts/control_plane/adapters.py, scripts/control_plane/approver_policy.py, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

OS Signing Setup (os-control-signing-setup)

Guides human operators through creating and verifying passphrase-protected or FIDO hardware SSH signing keys required for cryptographic approval gates (APPROVED, VERIFY_EXIT, DONE).

Contents

Critical Constraints

  1. Never Run Setup Autonomously: Key creation and self-tests require interactive human terminal prompts; agents must never run them directly.
  2. Never Touch Private Keys: Never create, read, copy, or move private keys, and never edit allowed_signers*.
  3. No Automated Approvals: Never pipe passphrases or fabricate signatures; signatures are proof of actual human presence.

Quick start

Check signing status and key readiness:

python3 scripts/setup_ciba_identity.py --check

Workflow

  1. Check Status: Run status check to verify whether trust anchors or keys are missing.
  2. Guide Key Creation: Provide instructions for the human to run python3 scripts/setup_ciba_identity.py in their own terminal.
  3. Run Self-Test: Direct the human to execute python3 scripts/test_signing_mechanics.py.
  4. Inspect Results: Advise the human based on script output and verify readiness.

Verification

Confirm trust anchors exist and key is verified (exit code 0):

python3 scripts/setup_ciba_identity.py --check

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

os-control-signing-setup is a skill published in the GitHub repository richfrem/agent-plugins-skills (7 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 111 tokens to every session and 610 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-16.
