os-lab-memory

os-lab-memory is a skill for Claude Code from richfrem/agent-plugins-skills. It costs 73 tokens per session (538 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A memory manager for an agent workspace with session notes, longer-term facts, and automatic memory. It records sessions and promotes only checked, lasting information to shared memory.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to write a dated session summary, update long-term project facts, decide what to remember, and maintain memory files safely.
Why use it?
It reduces lost context between sessions while avoiding the spread of temporary errors or unverified facts. Conflict checks and size limits help keep shared memory reliable and manageable.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00073 $0.00538
Opus 5.5 $0.00029 $0.00215
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00108
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00054

Security

Grade A, and why

os-lab-memory scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/kernel.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Session Memory Manager (os-lab-memory)

Manages the three tiers of agent memory in an Agentic OS environment: Auto-memory (MEMORY.md), Long-term facts (context/memory.md), and Session logs (context/memory/YYYY-MM-DD.md).

Contents

Critical Constraints

  1. Conflict Resolution: Never overwrite context/memory.md with conflicting facts without prompt and resolution.
  2. Enduring Facts Only: Do not promote ephemeral error messages, test noise, or single-use bash commands.
  3. Lock Release: Always release memory lock upon completion or error recovery.

Quick start

Check current memory file size and status:

wc -c context/memory.md

Workflow

  1. Acquire Lock: Acquire memory lock via kernel.py:
    python3 scripts/kernel.py acquire_lock memory

  2. Record Session Log: Write dated session summary to context/memory/YYYY-MM-DD.md.
  3. Promote Long-Term Facts: Append vetted architectural decisions to context/memory.md with conflict checks.
  4. Enforce Size Limits: If context/memory.md exceeds 50,000 bytes, prune or archive oldest entries to context/memory/archive/.
  5. Release Lock:
    python3 scripts/kernel.py release_lock memory

Verification

Confirm memory update is persisted and lock is released:

python3 scripts/kernel.py state_read

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

os-lab-memory is a skill published in the GitHub repository richfrem/agent-plugins-skills (7 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 73 tokens to every session and 538 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-16.
