os-lab-scorer

os-lab-scorer is a skill for Claude Code from richfrem/agent-plugins-skills. It costs 230 tokens per session (1,235 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A check that decides whether one change to an agent skill should be kept or discarded. It runs the project's evaluator, compares the change with a recorded baseline, and checks a separate holdout set to detect overfitting.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to evaluate a proposed skill change or run one RED-GREEN-REFACTOR pass, where tests first fail, then pass, and the implementation is cleaned up.
Why use it?
It replaces subjective judgments with a repeatable score and prevents changes that improve the main tests while getting worse on unseen tests. It also limits each check to one change so the result is easier to interpret.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00230 $0.01235
Opus 5.5 $0.00092 $0.00494
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00046 $0.00247
Haiku 4.5 $0.00023 $0.00123

Security

Grade A, and why

os-lab-scorer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/eval_runner.py, scripts/evaluate.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Lab Scorer (os-lab-scorer)

One locked check for one change. It never loops: the loop belongs to os-lab-loop, which calls this skill once per change. Two modes share the same gate: check (score a change someone else proposed) and single pass (RED-GREEN-REFACTOR on one skill).

Contents

Critical constraints

  1. Locked evaluator: never modify evaluate.py, eval_runner.py or evals/evals.json to make a score pass. Only the target SKILL.md changes.
  2. Objective verification: never simulate routing or judge by impression. Every verdict comes from running evaluate.py.
  3. One variable per change: reject bulk rewrites; the gate cannot attribute a score change to several edits.
  4. Holdout gate: if base score rises but holdout score falls, force DISCARD (overfitting). A run with no holdout set is incomplete.
  5. F1 guard: never disable the f1 >= baseline_f1 check; it is the only defense against keyword stuffing.

Quick start

Baseline a target once, then score each change:

python scripts/evaluate.py --skill <path/to/target-skill> --baseline --desc "initial baseline"
python scripts/evaluate.py --skill <path/to/target-skill> --desc "what changed"
echo $? # 0 = KEEP, 1 = DISCARD (reverted), 2 = path error, 3 = tampered environment

Pass the skill folder, not a file. State lives in the target: evals/evals.json, evals/results.tsv and its optimization program file.

Workflow

Mode 1: Check one change

  1. Confirm the proposal changes one variable and write it to the target SKILL.md.
  2. Run evaluate.py; read the exit code and the new row in evals/results.tsv.
  3. Apply the holdout gate (see overfitting-gate.md).
  4. DISCARD: confirm SKILL.md was restored and report score, delta and F1. KEEP: commit the single change (keep: score=<s> f1=<f1> <desc>).
  5. Return the verdict to the caller. Exit codes 2 and 3 are not verdicts; see troubleshooting.md.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

os-lab-scorer is a skill published in the GitHub repository richfrem/agent-plugins-skills (7 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 230 tokens to every session and 1,235 once invoked, about $0.0009 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-16.
