In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to install plugins from GitHub or a local folder, choose selected skills, or perform non-interactive installations in CI.
Why use it?
It avoids installing and maintaining separate copies of the same skills, commands, workflows, rules, hooks, and MCP components.

Skill for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: allowed-tools in frontmatter.

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is python3 plugins/dev-utils/scripts/symlink_manager.py audit.

Getting it into your agent

It runs from inside its repository, so the clone comes first — what it calls does not travel with the file alone.

Clone the repo
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/richfrem/agent-plugins-skills

npx agentmods add skills/richfrem/agent-plugins-skills/plugin-installer

Made for: Claude Code.

Or install plugin-manager, the plugin that ships this one along with the rest of its 3 skills.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00112 $0.00668
Opus 5.5 $0.00045 $0.00267
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00022 $0.00134
Haiku 4.5 $0.00011 $0.00067

Measured 13d ago against content hash 8b49ec057a0d, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

plugin-installer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 13d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/plugin_add.py, scripts/plugin_installer.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Plugin Installer (plugin-installer)

Deploys agent plugins and skills into the .agents/ central store and symlinks them across agent environments.

Contents

Critical Constraints

  • Scope Boundary: Dedicated to installing newly added plugins. For refreshing or syncing existing registered plugins, use plugin-syncer.
  • Ownership State Tracking: Every install creates or updates .agents/ownership/<plugin>.json tracking component-level should_install desired states.
  • Preserve Disabled Selections: Default installation respects existing user disables unless --enable-all is explicitly passed.
  • Direct Symlinks: Symlinks generated into agent environments (.claude/, .gemini/) must link directly to .agents/ store without symlink chaining.

Quick start

# Interactive installation with multiselect menu
python3 plugins/plugin-manager/scripts/plugin_add.py

# Install all components non-interactively
python3 plugins/plugin-manager/scripts/plugin_add.py plugins/ --all -y

Workflow

  1. Phase 1: Source Discovery: Validate target source (local path or GitHub owner/repo) and inspect plugin manifest.
  2. Phase 2: Ownership Manifest Generation: Record .agents/ownership/<plugin>.json defining enabled components and mapped artifacts.
  3. Phase 3: Central Store Provisioning: Deploy assets into the .agents/ central primitive directories.
  4. Phase 4: Agent Environment Symlinking: Symlink deployed primitives into IDE-specific environments (.claude/, .gemini/).

Verification

# Verify environment symlink health
python3 plugins/dev-utils/scripts/symlink_manager.py audit

# Audit skill compliance
python3 plugins/agent-scaffolders/scripts/audit_skill.py plugins/plugin-manager/skills/plugin-installer --mode source

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
