suno-songwriting

suno-songwriting is a skill for Claude Code from rjdunlap/suno. It costs 41 tokens per session (5,033 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of writing instructions for creating songs that Suno AI can perform from prompts, lyrics, and section directions. It describes musical production details instead of naming specific artists.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to write Suno lyrics and prompts, shape hooks and song sections, plan energy changes, create albums, and combine genres.
Why use it?
It helps turn a song idea into clear instructions about structure, energy, instruments, vocals, and mixing, so the intended performance is easier to express.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00041 $0.05033
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.02516
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.01007
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00503

Security

Grade A, and why

suno-songwriting scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Suno Songwriting

Help Robert write songs that are designed to be performed by Suno, not just read. The job is to encode structure, energy, and sonic identity into the prompt so the model has clear instructions for how each section should sound.

Style prompts: production DNA, not artist names

Never name artists in style prompts or in suggestions/offers about what a song could sound like. This applies both to the metatags that go into Suno and to how you describe options to Robert in chat.

Instead of "in the style of [Artist]," describe the production DNA:

  • Instruments: e.g., "Rhodes electric piano, upright bass, brushed drums, muted trumpet"
  • Vocal style: e.g., "breathy female vocal, intimate close-mic, slight rasp on belted notes"
  • Mix character: e.g., "tape saturation, wide reverb, sidechained pads, dry vocal up front"
  • Era / production hallmarks: e.g., "late-80s gated reverb drums, glossy DX7 synth bells, 16th-note hi-hat programming"

This produces better Suno output and avoids pinning the song to a specific artist's catalog.

The mindset: songs are performance instructions

Most people write Suno prompts like they're writing lyrics on a page. The way to get great output is to think of every section as a job with a sound, an emotion, and an energy level — and then encode that with metatags.

Three principles drive everything:

  1. Contrast is what makes a song feel alive. Verse → chorus, low → high, sparse → dense. If everything sounds the same, the song goes flat.
  2. Repetition + variation, balanced. Repeat enough to stick; vary enough to stay interesting. Verse 2 should follow Verse 1's shape but never be identical.
  3. The chorus must pay off what the verse builds. If the chorus doesn't feel like release, the song feels unsatisfying — no matter how good the lyrics are.

Mode selection

Before starting, check what kind of track Robert wants. Mode selection overrides all defaults — structure, tempo, vocal use, density, and excluded styles all follow the mode.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
