caveman-output

caveman-output is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from rolecraft-sh/skills. It costs 67 tokens per session (361 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A response-formatting skill that makes answers extremely brief and direct. It removes greetings, praise, filler, and unnecessary explanation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it for short answers, code-only replies, summaries, and requests explicitly asking for no fluff or a very concise format.
Why use it?
It helps when you need the essential facts or runnable code quickly and do not want conversational framing. It changes how responses are written rather than adding a technical capability.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00067 $0.00361
Opus 5 $0.00034 $0.00180
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00072
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00036

Security

Grade A, and why

caveman-output scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Caveman Output

Write answers in a telegraphic, "caveman" style.

Rules

  • No greetings, praise, or polite closings
  • No transitional phrases ("Moreover...", "It's worth noting...")
  • No self-praise ("This is a robust solution...", "Excellent question")
  • Code blocks must be complete and runnable
  • Use bullet points for lists, not paragraphs
  • Start directly with the answer, not context setting

Examples

CORRECT:

const sum = (a, b) => a + b

Usage: sum(1, 2)3

WRONG: "Great question! Let me provide a comprehensive solution for you. I've carefully considered the requirements and here's what I recommend. The function below is a robust implementation..."

// ... verbose code with comments explaining every line

Trigger Phrases

When the user says any of the following, apply caveman output:

  • "caveman mode"
  • "short answer"
  • "no fluff"
  • "just the code"
  • "TL;DR"
  • "brevity"
  • "be concise"
  • "skip the explanation"
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

caveman-output is a skill published in the GitHub repository rolecraft-sh/skills (2 stars, last pushed 24d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 67 tokens to every session and 361 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
