ase-task-list

ase-task-list is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from rse/ase. It costs 19 tokens per session (1,438 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A command that lists available task plans, filtered by their lifecycle status. A task plan is a written description of work and its current state.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to list plans in states such as drafted, started, blocked, completed, or cancelled.
Why use it?
It lets you find relevant plans without opening them one by one.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00019 $0.01438
Opus 5 $0.00010 $0.00719
Sonnet 5 $0.00004 $0.00288
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00144

Security

Grade A, and why

ase-task-list scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Procedure

  1. Determine the effective state set , i.e., the lifecycle states a task plan has to be in to be listed at all. For this, parse and as comma-separated token lists, silently dropping the none sentinel and any empty token. If a token is not one of the eight Status: values DRAFTED, REJECTED, APPROVED, DEFERRED, STARTED, BLOCKED, COMPLETED, or CANCELLED, only output the following and then STOP processing the entire current skill:

Otherwise set to all eight states if both lists are empty, to the include list if only it is non-empty, to all eight minus the exclude list if only it is non-empty, and to the include list minus the exclude list if both are non-empty. If the resulting is empty, only output the following and then STOP processing the entire current skill:

Directly after this error , and before stopping, give the corrective hint by expanding the following (which, depending on the configured , may expand into nothing and hence emit no output at all):

  2. Call the ase_task_list(verbose: <getopt-option-verbose/>) tool from the ase MCP server. The result is a structured object with a tasks array where each entry has an id and a status field, and -- if is true -- additionally an mtime field (formatted as YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM). Drop from the tasks array every entry whose status is not contained in . Do not output anything.

  3. If the tasks array is empty, output the following :

    Else, dispatch on :

    • If is true, output the list of tasks with the following , where each , , and correspond to an entry in the task list:

      Task Id Status Last Modified
      <status/> <mtime/>
      [...] [...] [...]
    • If is false, output the list of tasks with the following , where each corresponds to an entry in the task list:

      Task Id
      [...]
  4. Finally, give the closing hints by expanding the following (which, depending on the configured , may each expand into nothing and hence emit no output at all):

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
