workflow-design-interface-options

workflow-design-interface-options is a skill for Claude Code from saemihemma/lead-producer-oss. It costs 36 tokens per session (501 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A design process for comparing at least three different ways to shape a programming interface before implementation. An interface is the boundary through which code modules or callers communicate.

In plain words
What is it for?
Choosing API shapes, module boundaries, or other local interfaces when several reasonable designs are possible.
Why use it?
It helps resolve important design choices early by comparing simplicity, flexibility, implementation effort, and likely failure points.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00036 $0.00501
Opus 5 $0.00018 $0.00251
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00100
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00050

Security

Grade A, and why

workflow-design-interface-options scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Design Interface Options Workflow

Purpose

Decide how an interface should feel to its callers. For module seams, API shapes, and local design choices — not whole-system architecture.

Use When

  • Multiple reasonable API or module shapes exist
  • Team is uncertain which interface ages best
  • Want to compare simplicity, flexibility, and implementation cost before coding
  • Architecture is settled but one boundary needs deliberate design

Do NOT Use When

  • Broad system decomposition or platform strategy
  • Interface is obvious and risk is implementation quality
  • Immediate problem is reproducing a bug

Workflow

  1. Sharpen first. Restate the job the interface must do and its highest-cost mistakes. If the requirements or callers are fuzzy, grill the open decisions one at a time before drafting options (see workflow-requirements-grill) — competing options are only meaningful once the job is clear.
  2. Identify primary callers, inputs, outputs, failure modes.
  3. Draft at least 3 genuinely different options (not cosmetic variants).
  4. Compare in prose: simplicity, generality, implementation efficiency, module depth.
  5. Recommend one option with rationale.

Option Design Rules

  • Optimize for clear call sites, not just elegant internals.
  • Make invalid states difficult to express.
  • Prefer deep modules with small surfaces over wide interfaces leaking implementation.
  • Keep comparison concrete enough for immediate implementation.

Default Output

  1. Problem statement and constraints
  2. 3+ materially different interface options
  3. Prose comparison across simplicity, generality, efficiency, depth
  4. Recommended direction with rationale

Anti-Patterns

  • One favored option plus two token alternatives.
  • Comparing implementation details without discussing caller experience.
  • Turning local interface exercise into full architecture rewrite.

Output Discipline

  • Follow the Default Output structure as both minimum and maximum. Do not add extra sections.
  • Keep findings concise: 2-5 points per section.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

workflow-design-interface-options is a skill published in the GitHub repository saemihemma/lead-producer-oss (2 stars, last pushed 5d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 36 tokens to every session and 501 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
