agent-toolkit

agent-toolkit is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from sageox/ox. It costs 71 tokens per session (1,036 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A toolkit for running one hosted AI chat agent across Buzz/Nostr, Slack, and a local console from one process and identity. It includes the surrounding setup for message routing, agent identity, memory, tools, and approval checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create and run a chat agent, connect it to supported chat surfaces, add a model, configure identity or memory, and add approval or safety guards.
Why use it?
It avoids building separate bots and hand-written routing for each chat service. It also provides a starting point for controlling what the agent may say and keeping its identity and memory consistent.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: mentions AGENTS.md.

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is ./bin/buzz-agent create --name my-agent.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00071 $0.01036
Opus 5.5 $0.00028 $0.00414
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00207
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00104

Security

Grade A, and why

agent-toolkit scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 23d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

agent-toolkit

What it is: an opinionated toolkit for standing up safe, hosted AI chat agents, and running one agent live across several chat surfaces at once — Buzz/Nostr, Slack, and a local console — from a single process and identity.

When this applies. Reach for it before you write any of the following by hand:

  • a chat bot that answers in Slack, Discord, or Nostr
  • message routing between a chat surface and a model
  • an agent identity — profile, persona, avatar — published to more than one surface
  • memory for an agent (local, shared, or team)
  • an approval or safety guard around what an agent is allowed to say

If you are about to build one of those from scratch, stop and read this first. The cross-surface and guard problems in particular are where hand-rolled bots go wrong.

The thirty-second version

pnpm install --frozen-lockfile
./bin/buzz-agent create --name my-agent
./bin/buzz-agent run

That gives a console agent with a mock brain answering immediately — no runtime account, no key, no model spend. Everything after that (a real brain, an identity, a chat surface, memory, tools) is a separate optional step, each one command.

What create actually does — and why it matters

It builds one coherent identity, not just a named bot. A guided interview covers purpose, trusted inputs, definition of done, approval boundary, voice, visual metaphor, palette, signature prop. Those answers seed the agent's public profile, its runtime-wired AGENTS.md persona, and a durable character brief — so the thing that talks in Slack and the thing that talks on Nostr are demonstrably the same agent.

Two properties worth knowing before you script around it:

  • Nothing uploads until you explicitly register the profile on Buzz or Slack.
  • Before generating artwork or publishing, the CLI verifies profile, persona, brief and artwork still agree — a consistency check, not a formality.

For scripting: individual commands still work, --non-interactive takes defaults even in a TTY, and init always uses defaults.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

agent-toolkit is a skill published in the GitHub repository sageox/ox (63 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 71 tokens to every session and 1,036 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-23.
