davinci-resolve-mcp: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/resolve-media-analysis/SKILL.md

resolve-media-analysis is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from samuelgursky/davinci-resolve-mcp. It costs 66 tokens per session (1,050 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A read-only media analysis layer for DaVinci Resolve, a video-editing program. It uses tools such as FFprobe, FFmpeg, and optionally Whisper to identify and examine footage without changing the original files.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps inspect video and audio files, identify their properties and content, and provide context for automated work inside DaVinci Resolve. It can also support Resolve’s built-in analysis features when the installed version provides them.
Why use it?
It gives Resolve automation information about what each source clip contains before taking action. This reduces the risk of making decisions with incomplete media details or altering the original footage.

About the project

davinci-resolve-mcp is an MCP server that lets AI assistants control DaVinci Resolve Studio through its scripting API, including editing, media organization, rendering, grading, and other project tasks. It is for users who want agents to operate Resolve and inspect media through a local control panel. The catalogue entries support agent workflows for this Resolve integration.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00066 $0.01050
Opus 5 $0.00033 $0.00525
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00210
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00105

Security

Grade A, and why

resolve-media-analysis scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Resolve Media Analysis

This skill wraps the project's canonical media analysis guide with Claude Code-specific integration.

Read docs/guides/media-analysis-guide.md for the complete guide. Everything below is Claude Code-specific context.

The First Rule

Never touch the source. Your relationship to source media is READ-ONLY. See docs/guides/media-analysis-guide.md section "The First Rule: Never Touch the Source" for the full rationale from every post-production department.

What this build cannot do (check before you offer it)

The scripting API changes per patch release, so "Resolve 21" is not a usable label. Read resolve_control get_versionbuild.unavailable_on_this_build before offering a gated surface; check_version_support asks about one named symbol. Gated in this domain — note all of it is Resolve's own analysis, not this repo's:

Surface Needs If absent
MediaPoolItem / Folder.AnalyzeForIntellisearch 21.0 No IntelliSearch index
Project.ResetIntellisearchAnalysis 21.0 The index cannot be cleared from a script
MediaPoolItem / Folder.AnalyzeForSlate 21.0 No automatic slate detection
MediaPoolItem / Folder.PerformAudioClassification / ClearAudioClassification 21.0 No Resolve-side audio classification
MediaPoolItem / Folder.RemoveMotionBlur 21.0 Unavailable
Project.GenerateSpeech 21.0 No AI speech generation

This repo's own analysis stack does not depend on any of them. analyze_media reads frames and audio off disk and runs its own vision/transcription/embedding tiers, so an older Resolve loses Resolve's AI features, not this pipeline. Say which one the user is actually missing.

An empty unavailable_on_this_build means nothing recorded is missing, not that everything exists — most of the API has never been version-bisected. A symbol with no gate returns unknown, which means probe it. Probe with name in dir(obj), never bare hasattr: on a Resolve object hasattr returns True for every name, real or invented, so it can only say yes.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

resolve-media-analysis is a skill published in the GitHub repository samuelgursky/davinci-resolve-mcp (2,622 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 66 tokens to every session and 1,050 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
