scraperapi-async

A reference for ScraperAPI's background scraping jobs. You submit one or many URLs, the service works on them without keeping your request open, and you later retrieve the results by checking the job or receiving a webhook.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to submit many URLs, scrape PDFs or images, or receive completed results through polling or a webhook. For one URL needed immediately, use ScraperAPI's standard request method instead.
Why use it?
It suits slow, unreliable, or large scraping requests that should not block your program. It also documents batch submissions of up to 50,000 URLs and automatic retries for up to 24 hours.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00186 $0.02331
Opus 5 $0.00093 $0.01166
Sonnet 5 $0.00037 $0.00466
Haiku 4.5 $0.00019 $0.00233

Security

Grade B, and why

scraperapi-async scanned grade B with 2 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

A POST to an outside endpoint may be telemetry or may be exfiltration; either way the mod talks to somewhere, and you should know where.

ScraperAPI Async Jobs API

The Async API submits scraping jobs in the background and retries them for up to 24 hours to maximize success. Results are retrieved by polling a status URL or received automatically via webhook.

When NOT to use Async

  • Single URL, result needed immediately → use the Standard API (api.scraperapi.com) — simpler and returns inline.
  • Need to follow links across a site → use the Crawler.
  • Need recurring scheduled scraping → use DataPipeline.

Use Async when: scraping 20+ URLs, the target site is slow or flaky, you want webhook delivery, or you need to scrape PDFs/images.

Endpoints

Action Method URL
Submit single job POST https://async.scraperapi.com/jobs
Submit batch (up to 50k) POST https://async.scraperapi.com/batchjobs
Check / retrieve job GET https://async.scraperapi.com/jobs/<jobId>
Cancel job DELETE https://async.scraperapi.com/jobs/<jobId>

Auth: apiKey in the JSON request body (note: apiKey camelCase, unlike the Standard API's api_key).

Single Job

import os, requests, time

API_KEY = os.environ["SCRAPERAPI_API_KEY"]

# Submit

            "render":       True,
            "country_code": "us",
        }
    }
)
job = r.json()
# {"id": "...", "status": "running", "statusUrl": "...", "url": "..."}

# Poll
def poll(status_url, interval=5, max_wait=120):
    deadline = time.time() + max_wait
    while time.time() < deadline:
        data = requests.get(status_url).json()
        if data["status"] == "finished":
            return data["response"]["body"]

    raise TimeoutError("Job did not finish in time")

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

scraperapi-async is a skill published in the GitHub repository scraperapi/scraperapi-skills (10 stars, last pushed 24d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 186 tokens to every session and 2,331 once invoked, about $0.0009 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 2 findings (sends data to an external url, makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
