open-redirect-testing

open-redirect-testing is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from SecurityTalent/bugskill-ai. It costs 6 tokens per session (1,345 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A security testing guide for open redirects, where a website sends visitors to a destination chosen by an input value without checking it.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for checking login, logout, OAuth, link-shortening, and JavaScript redirect flows for unsafe destination handling.
Why use it?
It helps find links that can appear trusted while sending people to phishing pages, or that can support other attacks such as OAuth token theft.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00006 $0.01345
Opus 5.5 $0.00002 $0.00538
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00001 $0.00269
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00135

Security

Grade A, and why

open-redirect-testing scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 20d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Open Redirect

What Is Broken and Why

Applications that accept a URL or path from user input and redirect to it without validating the destination allow attackers to craft links that appear to originate from a trusted domain but send victims to attacker-controlled pages. Commonly used for phishing, OAuth token theft, and as a stepping stone to reflected XSS or SSRF.

Key Signals

  • Parameters named redirect, url, next, return_to, continue, dest, destination, return, go, target, rurl, returl in GET/POST requests
  • HTTP 301/302/307/308 responses with attacker-influenced Location header
  • Post-login or post-logout redirects that echo back a ?next= value
  • OAuth state parameter or redirect_uri validation weaknesses
  • JavaScript-based redirects: location.href = param, window.location = param

Methodology

  1. Identify all redirect parameters across login, logout, OAuth flows, and link shorteners.
  2. Submit https://evil.example as the parameter value; observe if Location: reflects it.
  3. If a domain check exists, attempt each bypass technique below.
  4. Test JavaScript redirects separately — inject javascript:alert(1) for XSS path.
  5. Check for open redirects on subdomains that can be used to bypass SameSite cookie restrictions on the main domain.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
