cloclo: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/simplify/SKILL.md

simplify is a skill for Claude Code from SeifBenayed/cloclo. It costs 35 tokens per session (367 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A code-review guide for finding and removing unnecessary complexity. It focuses on making existing code shorter, clearer, and easier to maintain.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to simplify code, clean up recent changes, reduce nesting, and improve readability.
Why use it?
It helps remove unused code, needless wrappers, overly broad error handling, and abstractions added without a current need.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00035 $0.00367
Opus 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00147
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00073
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00037

Security

Grade A, and why

simplify scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Code Simplification

Review the specified code (or recent changes) for unnecessary complexity and simplify it.

What to look for

  1. Over-abstraction — helpers, utilities, or wrapper functions used only once. Inline them.
  2. Unnecessary indirection — callback chains, event buses, or service layers that just pass data through.
  3. Defensive overkill — error handling for impossible cases, null checks deep inside trusted internal code.
  4. Dead code — unused imports, unreachable branches, commented-out blocks, unused variables.
  5. Complex conditionals — nested if/else that could be early returns, switch statements that could be lookups.
  6. Premature generalization — config objects for one use case, plugin systems with one plugin, factory patterns for one type.
  7. Redundant comments — comments that restate the code instead of explaining why.

Principles

  • Three similar lines of code are better than a premature abstraction
  • Delete code rather than add it when possible
  • If removing something breaks nothing, it shouldn't have been there
  • The right amount of complexity is the minimum needed for the current requirements
  • Don't design for hypothetical future requirements

Process

  1. Read the target files
  2. For each issue found, explain what's overly complex and why it can be simplified
  3. Show the simplified version
  4. Apply the fix
  5. Verify the changes don't break anything (run tests if available)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

simplify is a skill published in the GitHub repository SeifBenayed/cloclo (116 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 35 tokens to every session and 367 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
