it-ram-doctor

it-ram-doctor is a skill for Claude Code from serejaris/personal-corp-os. It costs 58 tokens per session (1,184 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A memory-cleanup helper for finding processes that keep using a computer's RAM after their work has ended. It takes a read-only snapshot first and only stops processes after the owner gives permission.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when a computer is slow, swap is growing, memory pressure is high, or closed applications have left background processes running.
Why use it?
It helps distinguish real memory pressure from normal caching and compression, then identifies abandoned desktop sessions, workers, and other leftovers that can slow a machine.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00058 $0.01184
Opus 5.5 $0.00023 $0.00474
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00237
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00118

Security

Grade A, and why

it-ram-doctor scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/tails-linux.sh, scripts/tails-macos.sh), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

The snapshot only reads; step 4 kills, and only on the owner's word.

When memory is short

"13 of 16 GB used" and the swap size do not show load: macOS keeps memory busy with cache and compression, and swap does not shrink until a reboot. Memory is short when any of these holds:

  • pressure: sysctl kern.memorystatus_vm_pressure_level is 4 or stays at 2 for long (threshold: on Apple silicon 2 appears under ordinary compression); memory_pressure | tail -1 shows less than 25–30% free;
  • Swapouts in vm_stat grow between two readings a minute apart;
  • swap grows three readings in a row.

No signs: clean only on a direct request. Measure a process by top -o mem or footprint; ps understates the compressed part.

Procedure

  1. Snapshot. From the skill root:

    bash scripts/tails-macos.sh # local
    ssh -o BatchMode=yes -o ConnectTimeout=8 <alias> 'bash -s' < scripts/tails-<os>.sh # remote

Keep the script's summary as the "before" and take the top of top -o mem: the table omits launchd services (on Linux, .service units), system processes, Claude.app and children of active sessions, and one live job (a local whisper run, 9 GB) can outweigh all the tails. Done when you hold the table, the summary and the top of top.

  2. Decide. The "Action" column sets what to do with a class (the script prints the Russian labels shown):

    Class What it is Action
claude-сессия (claude session) Claude Code CLI, bundled with Desktop or standalone kill if a tail
хвост закрытого приложения (closed-app tail) processes of X.app with PPID 1 while X is not running, and everything under them kill
сирота (orphan) a worker with PPID 1: omp/bun, Chrome for Testing, npx/MCP, grok/codex; duplicates marked kill
dev-сервер (dev server) http.server, vite, npm run dev without a parent, older than a day ask
зомби (zombie) STAT Z older than a minute its parent reaps it: name the parent

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
