design-skills

design-skills is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ShaftHQ/SHAFT_ENGINE. It costs 32 tokens per session (1,014 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of design guidance cards and a quality-check process for web pages, images, motion graphics, and videos. It requires evidence such as real captures and command output, and records asset licences before use.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to plan visual work, define brand or visual direction, review web surfaces, and run the required design checks on finished work.
Why use it?
It gives design work a repeatable review checklist instead of relying only on personal taste. It also helps catch skipped checks and unsupported or unlicensed assets.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00032 $0.01014
Opus 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00406
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00203
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00101

Security

Grade A, and why

design-skills scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/design_qc.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Design skills (add-on)

Optional ChaosEngine add-on. Installed at .chaos-engine/addons/design-skills/ only when a user passed --with-design-skills. Without it, use core ui-delivery for UI work.

Iron rules

  1. Load one card for the current step, never the whole set. Return here for the next step.
  2. Web work loads core ui-delivery first. Cards add design judgment; they never replace red-then-green tests or the viewport x theme matrix.
  3. Every deliverable ends with its card's Verify list run through design_qc.py. skipped is not pass: install the tool or report the gap.
  4. Real evidence only: real captures, real command output, real product facts. Mockups are labelled. No generated text inside images.
  5. Licences first: record every font, track, voice, model, and footage source in the asset manifest before using it.
  6. Deliver after QC and an independent review pass; earlier files are DRAFT.
  7. A design document (brief, storyboard, visual direction) runs the core design loop when the owner asks for review.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

design-skills is a skill published in the GitHub repository ShaftHQ/SHAFT_ENGINE (414 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 32 tokens to every session and 1,014 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-04.
