local-runtimes

local-runtimes is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from ShaftHQ/SHAFT_ENGINE. It costs 44 tokens per session (426 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A routing guide for choosing an optional program that runs AI models on your own computer. It covers several local runtimes and a hardware check for narrow, offline jobs.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps choose a local runtime, check whether the computer can handle a model, and run one-shot mechanical or offline tasks.
Why use it?
It prevents using a local model when the machine or service is not ready, and keeps unsuitable tasks on the cloud-based coding system.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00044 $0.00426
Opus 5.5 $0.00018 $0.00170
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00085
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00043

Security

Grade A, and why

local-runtimes scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 15d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Local runtimes

Cloud implementers write code directly. A local runtime is optional and only pays for narrow mechanical or offline jobs; never let it review its own diff. Pick one row, then open only that route.

Need Route Open
Which model size fits this machine hardware probe local-coding-delegate
Already READY loopback server (Ollama, LM Studio, llamacpp) loopback local-openai-compat
Standalone FreeToken process FreeToken freetoken
Frontier MoE through disk/RAM/VRAM tiers Colibri colibri
OmniRoute runner with delegate continuity OmniRoute omniroute
Local agents (OpenCode / OSS agency) agency local-agency

FreeToken and Colibri share the loopback runtime contract.

Rules:

  • A runtime is used only when its READY probe passes; otherwise stay on the cloud implementer and record local: skipped(<reason>) once.
  • One-shot jobs only: one short spec in, one digest out. No parent relay.
  • Avoided-spend metering and USD/EGP lines are required only when a local inference channel was actually used (process owner).
  • Descriptions, paths and host exposure live in the catalog.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

local-runtimes is a skill published in the GitHub repository ShaftHQ/SHAFT_ENGINE (414 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 44 tokens to every session and 426 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-26.
