kindle-weekly-letter: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/sources/SKILL.md

sources is a skill for Claude Code from ShawnBaek/kindle-weekly-letter. It costs 30 tokens per session (453 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A command set for managing the source lists stored in a project's sources.json file.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to list sources by topic, vote or unvote for them, add new source links, or mark sources inactive without deleting their history.
Why use it?
It avoids manually editing source records when you need to inspect, rank, add, or retire them.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00030 $0.00453
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00227
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00091
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00045

Measured 11d ago against content hash 40c2ac14d162, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-11, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

sources scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Manage Sources

Read sources.json at the project root.

Commands

Based on $ARGUMENTS, do one of:

/sources list or /sources list [topic]

Display all sources grouped by topic in a readable table:

Topic: AI Engineering News
  ▲5 Anthropic Blog (anthropic.com/blog) — active
  ▲5 OpenAI Blog (openai.com/blog) — active
  ▲4 Hacker News (news.ycombinator.com) — active
  ...

If a topic is specified, show only that topic. Sort by votes descending.

/sources vote [topic] [source name]

Increment the vote count for the matching source by 1. Save to sources.json.

/sources unvote [topic] [source name]

Decrement the vote count for the matching source by 1 (minimum 0). Save to sources.json.

/sources add [topic] [source name] [url]

Add a new source to the specified topic with votes=1 and status=active. Save to sources.json.

/sources remove [topic] [source name]

Set status to "inactive" (don't delete — keep for history). Save to sources.json.

/sources (no arguments)

Show all sources for all topics with vote counts.

Notes

  • Match topic by id (e.g., "ai_news") or by partial name (e.g., "ai", "ios", "english")
  • Match source by partial name, case-insensitive
  • After any change, confirm what was updated and show the updated topic
  • Sources with status "inactive" are shown with strikethrough but still kept in the file
  • Agent prompts in prompts/ reference sources.json — higher voted sources get higher priority
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

sources is a skill published in the GitHub repository ShawnBaek/kindle-weekly-letter (2 stars, last pushed 5mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 30 tokens to every session and 453 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
