business-context

business-context is a skill for Claude Code from shinpr/claude-code-discover. It costs 45 tokens per session (615 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of business-analysis frameworks for understanding customers, value propositions, business models, market size, and competition. TAM, SAM, and SOM are ways to describe the total market, the reachable market, and the portion a product could realistically serve.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to assess whether an opportunity could support a business, map customer needs to value, estimate market scope, study competitors, and identify market gaps.
Why use it?
It gives product decisions a structured view of commercial risk instead of focusing only on what can be built.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00045 $0.00615
Opus 5 $0.00023 $0.00308
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00123
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00061

Measured 6d ago against content hash 8ad3c5d8a7e8, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

business-context scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Business Context Analysis

Purpose

Provide structured frameworks for understanding the business environment surrounding product decisions. These frameworks help assess Viability risk and identify Opportunities through market gaps.

When to Use Each Framework

Framework Use When Key Output
Business Model Canvas A viability decision depends on cross-component business-model effects Decision-relevant component map
Value Proposition Canvas Designing value propositions that match user needs Customer Profile + Value Map fit
Market Analysis Understanding market size, competition, and trends Market sizing, competitive positioning

Business Model Canvas (BMC)

Offers nine business-model components: Customer Segments, Value Propositions, Channels, Customer Relationships, Revenue Streams, Key Resources, Key Activities, Key Partnerships, and Cost Structure. Inspect the components and interactions that can change the current viability decision; use a full canvas only when the whole model is the named output.

Use during Opportunity Discovery to understand business context and identify where Solutions must fit within the business model.

See references/business-model-canvas.md for the full framework and quality checklist.

Value Proposition Canvas (VPC)

Designs value propositions by mapping Customer Profile (Jobs, Pains, Gains) to Value Map (Products & Services, Pain Relievers, Gain Creators). The goal is Problem-Solution Fit.

Connection to OST

  • Customer Jobs surface Opportunities (unmet jobs = opportunities)
  • Pains generate Hypotheses about friction causes
  • Pain Relievers and Gain Creators supply assumptions that may affect Value, Usability, Feasibility, or Viability depending on the claim being tested

See references/value-proposition-canvas.md for the full framework and fit assessment checklist.

Market Analysis

Structures market research across: Market Size (TAM/SAM/SOM), Segmentation, Competitive Analysis, and Market Trends.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
