aviationstack

aviationstack is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from shlomsh/hermes-travel-skills. It costs 23 tokens per session (653 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A live flight-tracking helper that looks up same-day details such as gates, terminals, delays, landing status, and baggage belts using a flight number or airport.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to answer questions about departures, arrivals, boarding, delays, and baggage carousels.
Why use it?
It avoids checking several airport or airline sources when you need the current status of a flight. It is limited to information for the same day.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00023 $0.00653
Opus 5 $0.00012 $0.00327
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00131
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00065

Security

Grade A, and why

aviationstack scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (live_flight_tracker.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Aviationstack — Live Flight Tracker

Live gate, terminal, delay, and baggage-belt data for any flight, by IATA flight number or airport.

When to use

Reach for this whenever the user asks about the live status of a flight — gate, terminal, boarding, delay, landing, or which belt the baggage is on. Resolve the IATA flight number from context (itinerary, a forwarded confirmation, a screenshot) when you can, so you don't have to ask the user for it.

User asks You do
gate / terminal / boarding flight <IATA>departure.terminal, departure.gate, departure.delay
landed / touched down flight <IATA> → status LANDED + arrival.actual
luggage / baggage belt flight <IATA>arrival.baggage (belt number)
delay / on time flight <IATA>departure.delay (0 = on time ✓)

Example questions

You ask You run
"Which baggage belt is the luggage from flight LY574 coming out on?" flight LY574arrival.baggage
"Is flight IZ212 departing on time, or is it delayed?" flight IZ212departure.delay (0 = on time ✓)
"Where do I pick up my bags — which carousel?" flight <IATA>arrival.baggage
"Has flight AA100 landed yet?" flight AA100 → status + arrival.actual

Usage

python live_flight_tracker.py flight LY8 # today (the only reliable mode on free tier)
python live_flight_tracker.py airport TLV dep
python live_flight_tracker.py airport MIA arr active

The flight command takes an optional [YYYY-MM-DD], but a date other than today needs a paid aviationstack plan — on the free key it returns "No data found". Track each flight on its travel day, not in advance.

Status icons

🕐 SCHEDULED · ✈️ ACTIVE · 🛬 LANDED · ❌ CANCELLED · ↩️ DIVERTED · ⚠️ INCIDENT

Notes

  • Free tier: same-day real-time only, HTTP, 100 req/month — one call per question, never poll.
  • Gate and baggage belt can change — always fetch live.
  • Requires AVIATIONSTACK_API_KEY in the environment. Note: the free tier is HTTP-only, so the key travels unencrypted in the request URL.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

aviationstack is a skill published in the GitHub repository shlomsh/hermes-travel-skills (7 stars, last pushed 3mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 23 tokens to every session and 653 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
