shekel-currency-converter

shekel-currency-converter is a skill for Claude Code from skills-il/tax-and-finance. It costs 112 tokens per session (3,073 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A currency-conversion helper for Israeli new shekels (NIS or ILS), using the Bank of Israel’s official representative exchange rates. It supports current and historical dates, including rates used for Israeli tax or business conversions.

In plain words
What is it for?
Converting amounts between shekels and currencies such as USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, and CHF. It also helps find the Bank of Israel representative rate for a particular date.
Why use it?
It helps avoid using an unofficial or outdated exchange rate when converting amounts involving shekels. Historical dates matter when a conversion must match a past transaction or tax record.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00112 $0.03073
Opus 5 $0.00056 $0.01537
Sonnet 5 $0.00022 $0.00615
Haiku 4.5 $0.00011 $0.00307

Security

Grade A, and why

shekel-currency-converter scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 1 executable file (scripts/fetch_rates.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Instructions

Step 1: Identify Conversion Request

Parse the user's request for:

  • Source currency and target currency (at least one should be NIS/ILS)
  • Amount to convert
  • Date (current or specific historical date, important for tax conversions)
  • Purpose (general info vs. tax-relevant representative rate)

Common currency codes:

Code Currency Hebrew
ILS Israeli New Shekel shekel chadash
USD US Dollar dolar
EUR Euro euro
GBP British Pound lira sterling
JPY Japanese Yen yen
CHF Swiss Franc frank shveitzi

Step 2: Fetch Exchange Rate

Current rate (live JSON endpoint): The legacy XML feed at currency.xml is gone (it now redirects to the JSON API), so do NOT parse XML. Fetch the JSON endpoint and read the exchangeRates array.

Fetch: https://www.boi.org.il/PublicApi/GetExchangeRates
Parse JSON: response.exchangeRates is an array of objects.
Each object: key (currency code), currentExchangeRate (NIS per "unit"),
unit (1, 10, or 100), currentChange (percent move vs. previous
             publication), lastUpdate (ISO timestamp).

Example object: {"key":"USD","currentExchangeRate":2.972,"unit":1,"currentChange":-0.47,"lastUpdate":"2026-08-26T12:22:04Z"}. Here currentChange is a percentage daily move, not an absolute NIS delta, and it is NOT used in conversion math.

Take the rate's date from lastUpdate, never from the system clock. "Most recently published" is not the same as "today". The endpoint keeps serving the previous publication until the next one lands, so any call made before the day's publication returns the PREVIOUS business day's rate. Because the shaar yatzig is date-attributed for tax, stamping it with today's date misstates which day's rate was used, which is exactly the error a tax conversion cannot afford. If a response carries no lastUpdate, do not report a date at all: say the publication date could not be established.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
