meter-off

meter-off is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Snowflake-Labs/cocoplus. It costs 31 tokens per session (584 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A session tool that stops CocoMeter tracking, records the final usage totals, and saves the session in history.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when a tracked session ends to finalize duration, tokens, tool calls, and model information.
Why use it?
It closes the current measurement cleanly while keeping past session records for later review.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00031 $0.00584
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00292
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00117
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00058

Security

Grade A, and why

meter-off scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 79 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Your objective is to disable CocoMeter token tracking.

Pre-flight Check

Check that .cocoplus/ directory exists. If not, output: "CocoPlus not initialized in this directory. Run $pod init to begin." Then stop.

Check Current State

Check if .cocoplus/meter/current-session.json exists with "metering_active": true.

If metering is NOT active, output: "CocoMeter is not currently active. Use $meter on to enable tracking." Then stop.

Finalize Session

  1. Read .cocoplus/meter/current-session.json.

  2. Update the record:

    • Set "metering_active": false
    • Set "ended_at": "<ISO 8601 timestamp>"
    • Compute "duration_minutes" from started_at to now
  3. Append the finalized record to .cocoplus/meter/history.jsonl (one JSON object per line).

  4. Reset .cocoplus/meter/current-session.json to inactive state:

{
  "session_id": null,
  "metering_active": false,
  "input_tokens": 0,
  "output_tokens": 0,
  "tool_calls": 0
}

Confirm Deactivation

Output session summary:

CocoMeter disabled.

Session Summary:
- Duration: <X> minutes
- Input tokens: <n>
- Output tokens: <n>
- Tool calls: <n>
- Top models: <model: count>

Session saved to .cocoplus/meter/history.jsonl
Use `$meter history` to review past sessions.

Anti-Rationalization

Shortcut / Temptation Why It Fails
Skip appending to history.jsonl and just reset current-session.json The session record is lost forever if not appended to history before reset — there is no recovery path
Mark metering_active: false without computing duration Duration is part of the history record; a missing duration makes the history row incomplete and the totals wrong

Exit Criteria

  • .cocoplus/meter/current-session.json has "metering_active": false and session_id: null
  • The finalized session record (with ended_at and duration_minutes) has been appended to .cocoplus/meter/history.jsonl
  • Output shows the session summary with duration, tokens, and tool call counts

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

meter-off is a skill published in the GitHub repository Snowflake-Labs/cocoplus (720 stars, last pushed 4d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 31 tokens to every session and 584 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
