trace-compare

trace-compare is a skill for Claude Code from Snowflake-Labs/cocoplus. It costs 24 tokens per session (323 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A comparison tool for two asset-health snapshots, showing how their measurements changed.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to compare two JSON snapshots and display the change in asset health.
Why use it?
It makes before-and-after changes visible, including changes in dependency impact and overall health grade.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00024 $0.00323
Opus 5 $0.00012 $0.00161
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00065
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00032

Measured 9d ago against content hash 1cde8f828f69, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-12, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

trace-compare scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

CocoTrace Compare

Use this skill for $trace compare <before.json> <after.json>.

Before proceeding, verify that .cocoplus/ exists. If not, output: "CocoPlus not initialized. Run $pod init first." Then stop.

Run:

invoke cocotrace/health-grader --compare <before.json> <after.json>

Display the thermal receipt exactly as a before/after delta, for example:

blast radius 23 -> 18 v / health B+ -> A- ^

Anti-Rationalization

Shortcut / Temptation Why It Fails
Treat the skill as complete because the file exists Skill contracts must describe observable behavior and verification, not just command names.
Skip artifact and safety checks for a small command Small commands still mutate state or guide execution; preserve the same gates.

Exit Criteria

  • Command behavior matches the owning feature contract.
  • Required reads, writes, and user-visible outputs are described.
  • Safety, governance, and artifact constraints are preserved.
  • Missing state produces a clear, non-destructive result.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

trace-compare is a skill published in the GitHub repository Snowflake-Labs/cocoplus (720 stars, last pushed 9d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 24 tokens to every session and 323 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
