worker-change-control

worker-change-control is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from sorryorc/mcp-codex-worker. It costs 30 tokens per session (283 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of rules for changing how background workers behave, including their tools, routing, measurements, and default settings.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing worker tool inputs, environment settings, measurements, results, or verification checks. It also guides tests and documentation for both normal and enforced behavior.
Why use it?
It helps prevent new changes from unexpectedly stopping requests or breaking older clients. It keeps stricter checks opt-in and preserves existing meanings where possible.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00030 $0.00283
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00142
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00057
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00028

Measured 4d ago against content hash 8160aa88db69, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

worker-change-control scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Worker Change Control

Use this before behavior changes to the MCP tool surface, gateway adapter, metrics, or verification gates.

Rules

  • Default to observe or warn. Only block a request when a caller explicitly chooses blocking_policy=enforce.
  • Keep old clients compatible: new fields must be optional and have conservative defaults.
  • Do not turn cost controls into correctness claims. A cheap lane result needs evidence.
  • Prefer additive receipt, metrics, and episode fields over changing existing response meanings.

Checklist

  • Identify the contract boundary: tool schema, env var, metric row, receipt, or job result.
  • Add tests for both default behavior and strict/enforced behavior.
  • Record blocking risk in the response or metrics when a gate is advisory.
  • Update README or .env.example if an operator needs to know the flag.

When Not To Use

Do not use this for pure docs edits that do not alter behavior. Use worker-docs-and-writing instead.

Verification

  • npm test
  • npm run build

Provenance and maintenance

Re-check tool schemas with rg -n "inputSchema|reliability_tier|blocking_policy" src/server.ts src/types.ts.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
