source-open-roles

source-open-roles is a skill for Claude Code from spinningrachel/career-engine. It costs 58 tokens per session (5,935 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A job-search workflow for finding currently open roles across professional networks, remote-work boards, startup sites, general job boards, and freelance platforms. It ranks matching roles and removes jobs already in the application tracker.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to source and rank suitable open jobs before researching them, assessing fit, writing applications, or adding them to the application pipeline.
Why use it?
It reduces the time spent searching unrelated sites and helps prevent duplicate applications. It follows the user's target titles, location, remote preference, exclusions, and search time range.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00058 $0.05935
Opus 5 $0.00029 $0.02967
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.01187
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00594

Security

Grade A, and why

source-open-roles scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Source Open Roles — Search Logic

Registry: this pipeline is listed in the Pipeline Registry in skills/career-engine/SKILL.md. Actions owned by another pipeline's registry row are out of scope here — route to that pipeline instead of improvising.

What This Skill Is For

Sourcing surfaces open roles that match the user's preferences — it is the top-of-funnel step that feeds the application pipeline. It does not research, coach, write, or score fit. Its job is to return a ranked list of roles that are (a) worth looking at and (b) not already in the pipeline.

Preferences Schema

All sourcing preferences live in ${CAREER_DATA}/references/pipeline-preferences.json — there is no separate local preferences store. The relevant keys:

{
  "target_titles": ["Head of Marketing", "VP Marketing"],
  "title_variants": {"Head of Marketing": ["VP Marketing", "Marketing Director", "Head of Growth", "GTM Lead"]},
  "remote_preference": "remote only",
  "exclusion_patterns": ["junior", "intern", "contract"],
  "default_search_time_range": "last week",
  "location_compatibility": {"my_location": "City, Country"},
  "database_id": "<the Notion/tracker database id, or empty to disable deduplication>",
  "screening_answers": {"compensation_floor": "<minimum base, or empty for no minimum>"}
}

Salary floor. There is no separate minSalary field — the scoring rubric's salary signal reads screening_answers.compensation_floor directly. Leave it blank for no minimum.

Database id. Read database_id (legacy notion_database_id) from pipeline-preferences.json — the same single source the rest of the plugin uses. If it's empty, dedup is skipped and the agent notes it.

Keyword Expansion

Target titles are searched as a variant set, not verbatim. The same role surfaces under many titles — "Product Marketing Manager," "Technical PMM Director," "Senior PMM," "GTM Enablement Lead," "Head of Marketing" — so a verbatim search for one misses the rest. Expanding at search time (not only fuzzy-matching at scoring time) is the single highest-payoff widener.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
