leaderboard: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/model-classification-research/SKILL.md

model-classification-research is a skill for Claude Code from steel-dev/leaderboard. It costs 46 tokens per session (1,340 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A research workflow for classifying evaluated AI model versions by size, openness, available weights, pricing, and runtime setup. It keeps this information separate from benchmark scores, which measure model performance.

In plain words
What is it for?
It updates model-registry records using retrieved primary sources such as model cards, papers, checkpoint listings, code, and official prices.
Why use it?
It prevents similarly named models, later releases, public code, or inaccessible sources from being mistaken for evidence about the exact model tested.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00046 $0.01340
Opus 5.5 $0.00018 $0.00536
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00009 $0.00268
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00134

Security

Grade A, and why

model-classification-research scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 24d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Model classification research

Maintain classification records separately from benchmark results. Read the selected entries in src/data/<benchmark>.json, the existing registry in src/data/model-research/, and any requested scope before editing. Preserve system names, scores, ranks, evaluation dates, and result-source links.

Evidence and identity

  • Research the exact evaluated model version. Distinguish a model checkpoint from its harness and from a hosted system. A similarly named later release does not establish an earlier result's parameters, price, or weights availability.
  • Prefer provider model cards, papers, official checkpoint inventories, code/configurations, and official prices. Actually retrieve the source; a search snippet or inaccessible URL is not proof. Credible secondary research can support a labeled estimate when primary evidence is incomplete.
  • For weights, inspect the actual repository/file inventory. A public GitHub harness, an empty Hugging Face repository, a promised release, or an open base model does not prove the evaluated fine-tune is available. Record a failed retrieval separately from evidence of non-release.
  • Read runtime tool configuration as well as the main model description. Include required planner, executor, summarizer, embedding, and reranking models. Exclude training-only teachers and scoring judges from the evaluated runtime stack. Do not infer a provider from an OpenAI-compatible API.
  • Preserve source URLs, a short explanation, confidence, and the actual check date. Explain conflicts such as a paper's architectural parameter count versus a checkpoint inventory including auxiliary tensors. Do not silently replace a historical evaluation with the latest contents of a mutable page.

Classification rules

Use the first supported basis:

  1. Published total parameters, in billions: Tiny ≤4; Small >4–40; Medium >40–150; Large >150. Record active MoE parameters separately. Active count, non-embedding count, quantized file size, and number of parallel agents do not replace total parameters.
  2. Published token-price proxy if total parameters are unknown: blend = (3 × inputUsdPerMillion + outputUsdPerMillion) / 4. Small <0.15; Medium 0.15–1 inclusive; Large >1. Use standard uncached USD prices per million tokens for the evaluated version. Exclude batch discounts, cache discounts, promotions unless unavoidable and disclosed, per-query charges, tool fees, subscriptions, and total benchmark run cost. Record the relevant context tier.
  3. Best supported provisional estimate when neither is known. Assign one size, label it Estimated, explain the inference and uncertainty, and use low confidence for unidentified hosted stacks. Store a parameter range only when evidence supports that range; do not invent a count to fit a category. If a range crosses a boundary, explicitly explain the chosen provisional category.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

model-classification-research is a skill published in the GitHub repository steel-dev/leaderboard (49 stars, last pushed 22d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 46 tokens to every session and 1,340 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-13.
