wayfinder

wayfinder is a skill for Codex from stevesolun/ctx. It costs 29 tokens per session (306 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A mapping method for large projects whose steps, decisions, and unknowns span multiple work sessions.

In plain words
What is it for?
Planning complex efforts, recording decisions, resolving uncertainties, and identifying when a project is ready for detailed execution.
Why use it?
It makes unclear work easier to navigate by showing settled choices, open questions, dependencies, and work that is out of scope.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00029 $0.00306
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00153
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00061
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00031

Security

Grade A, and why

wayfinder scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Wayfind a large effort

Use this skill when the destination matters but the route cannot yet fit in one working session. If the work is already well scoped, recommend a lighter plan or implementation workflow.

  1. Name the destination and its scope with the user.
  2. Inspect the configured tracker and existing decisions. Choose a map representation that collaborators and agents can query reliably.
  3. Create a low-resolution map: settled decisions, sharply stated open questions, dependencies, unresolved fog, and explicit out-of-scope work. Avoid inventing detailed tickets for questions that are not yet clear.
  4. Advance independent questions concurrently when ownership and writes do not conflict. Keep human judgment in the loop for product or preference decisions; use research or prototypes when evidence is missing.
  5. After resolving a question, record the decision once, update affected dependencies and fog, and expose the next useful frontier.
  6. Hand off when the route is clear enough for specification or execution. Wayfinding may produce work only when doing so is necessary to resolve a decision.

Read references/map-model.md when creating or repairing a map. Read references/workflows.md for charting, advancing, concurrency, and handoff choices.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

wayfinder is a skill published in the GitHub repository stevesolun/ctx (583 stars, last pushed 6d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 29 tokens to every session and 306 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
