misconfig

misconfig is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Strategic-Automation/violin. It costs 13 tokens per session (387 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A security testing guide for weaknesses caused by deployment settings, configuration, or missing operational visibility. It covers issues such as exposed management interfaces, unsafe headers, verbose errors, and missing logging or monitoring.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to test security configuration, information leaks caused by hidden or guessable paths, error disclosures, logging, monitoring, and error handling.
Why use it?
It helps distinguish problems in how an application is deployed from defects in its program logic.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00013 $0.00387
Opus 5 $0.00006 $0.00193
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00077
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00039

Security

Grade A, and why

misconfig scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Configuration, Deployment, and Observability Testing

On-demand skill for weaknesses that arise from how an application is deployed and operated rather than from its code logic: security misconfiguration, information leakage via obscurity, and observability failures (missing logging, monitoring, and error-handling disclosure). It does not contain injection payloads.

When to Use

  • Verbose errors, default credentials, exposed management interfaces, or permissive headers/CORS are observed.
  • A finding depends on deployment posture, hidden-but-guessable naming, or missing logging/monitoring.
  • Do not use for injection, authz, API protocol, or workflow flaws; route those classes to the appropriate specialist skill.

Playbook Routing

Class Playbook
Security misconfiguration playbooks/security-misconfiguration.md
Security through obscurity playbooks/security-through-obscurity.md
Observability failures playbooks/observability-failures.md

Common Pitfalls

  • Separate deployment posture from code defects; a misconfiguration is a configuration fix, not a code fix.
  • Preserve the exact header, error body, or default credential as decisive evidence.
  • Read the playbook stop conditions before probing management interfaces or default credentials.

Verification Checklist

  • Engagement bootstrap and scope validation succeeded.
  • The matched playbook alone was loaded and bound to the PTT task.
  • Evidence captures the exact misconfigured value or missing control.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
