aiohomematic: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/add-device/SKILL.md

add-device is a skill for Claude Code from SukramJ/aiohomematic. It costs 38 tokens per session (652 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for adding support for a new Homematic device model. Homematic is a home-automation system with devices such as switches, thermostats, and sensors.

In plain words
What is it for?
Registering a device model, connecting it to an existing or new device-data class, configuring its channels, and adding tests.
Why use it?
It provides the registration and testing steps needed for the software to recognize the device and expose its data correctly.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00038 $0.00652
Opus 5 $0.00019 $0.00326
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00130
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00065

Security

Grade A, and why

add-device scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Adding a New Device Type

Device-to-profile mappings are managed via DeviceProfileRegistry. Most new devices can use existing CustomDataPoint subclasses.

Step 1: Register with DeviceProfileRegistry

Register in the appropriate entity module (e.g., aiohomematic/model/custom/switch.py, climate.py):

# In aiohomematic/model/custom/switch.py (or appropriate module)
from aiohomematic.const import DataPointCategory, DeviceProfile, Parameter
from aiohomematic.model.custom.registry import DeviceProfileRegistry, ExtendedDeviceConfig

# Simple registration
DeviceProfileRegistry.register(
    category=DataPointCategory.SWITCH,
    models="HmIP-NEW-SWITCH", # Single model or tuple of models
    data_point_class=CustomDpSwitch, # Existing or new CustomDataPoint class
    profile_type=DeviceProfile.IP_SWITCH,
    channels=(3,),                        # Channel(s) where STATE lives
)

# With extended configuration (additional data points)
DeviceProfileRegistry.register(
    category=DataPointCategory.CLIMATE,
    models=("HmIP-NEW-THERMO", "HmIP-NEW-THERMO-2"),
    data_point_class=CustomDpIpThermostat,
    profile_type=DeviceProfile.IP_THERMOSTAT,
    channels=(1,),
    schedule_channel_no=1,
    extended=ExtendedDeviceConfig(
        additional_data_points={
            0: (Parameter.SOME_EXTRA_PARAM,),
        },
    ),
)

Step 2: For Devices with Multiple Configurations

E.g., lock + button lock:

from aiohomematic.model.custom.registry import DeviceConfig, DeviceProfileRegistry

DeviceProfileRegistry.register_multiple(
    category=DataPointCategory.LOCK,
    models="HmIP-NEW-LOCK",
    configs=(
        DeviceConfig(
            data_point_class=CustomDpIpLock,
            profile_type=DeviceProfile.IP_LOCK,
        ),
        DeviceConfig(
            data_point_class=CustomDpButtonLock,
            profile_type=DeviceProfile.IP_BUTTON_LOCK,
            channels=(0,),
        ),
    ),
)

Step 3: Add a Calculated Data Point (if needed)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

add-device is a skill published in the GitHub repository SukramJ/aiohomematic (167 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 38 tokens to every session and 652 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
