ponytail-review

ponytail-review is a skill for Claude Code from SummerSec/SumSec-Skills. It costs 63 tokens per session (287 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A focused code-review guide for finding over-engineering in a diff, meaning unnecessary complexity in a proposed code change. It reports what can be deleted, replaced with built-in features, inlined, or shortened.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review diffs for dead code, unnecessary abstractions, avoidable dependencies, standard-library replacements, native platform features, and shorter equivalent implementations.
Why use it?
It helps make a change smaller without reviewing unrelated correctness, security, or performance concerns. Its findings point to concrete reductions and end with an estimate of lines that could be removed.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00063 $0.00287
Opus 5 $0.00032 $0.00143
Sonnet 5 $0.00013 $0.00057
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00029

Security

Grade A, and why

ponytail-review scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Review diffs for unnecessary complexity. One line per finding: location, what to cut, what replaces it. The best diff is a shorter diff.

Format

L<line>: <tag> <what>. <replacement>., or <file>:L<line>: ... for multi-file diffs.

Tags:

  • delete: dead code, unused flexibility, speculative feature. Replacement: nothing.
  • stdlib: hand-rolled thing the standard library already ships. Name the function.
  • native: dependency or code doing what the platform already does. Name the feature.
  • yagni: abstraction with one implementation, config nobody sets, layer with one caller.
  • shrink: same logic, fewer lines. Show the shorter form.

End with: net: -<N> lines possible.

If there is nothing to cut, say Lean already. Ship. and stop.

Scope: over-engineering only. Correctness, security, and performance are out of scope here.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

It adds 63 tokens to every session and 287 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
